As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
I just wanted to offer another windshield alternative, and the best there is imo. A Give Air Flow AF49 Universal dual part shield that compresses air over your head so you don't hear your face shield batter against your helmet and wind: you can hear your engine, although ear plugs still advised for longer trips. Here is where I got one for my Honda Nighthawk 750, and plan to put it on my BMW F650 Strada or my new Husky TR650, either/or (any bike I own until I die). After 40 years, the face shield bang and wind noise kind of take the enjoyment of motorcycling out of the picture. Once you drive with it, you won't want anything else: period. They have specific models for bikes stock fairings, but I like the universal one for the best coverage ($276 at Revzilla, no shipping, no tax (if you are not in their state), and a $10 coupon I still have.

Just got my Palmer products windshield and fittings in the post. Looks shmick! Will post pics when I bolt it on tomorrow. Didn't get the easy adjustment knobs though?
Edit: Wow, what a difference! Long hauls will be much more enjoyable now. There is a fair bit of reflection from the headlight at night. I haven't had a chance to play around with the settings yet. I will try at the uppermost position today.
Link I'm considering the Madstad. What size screen did you get? Do you get any wind buffeting? I'm 6'2" and have never been happy with a wind shield (always feels like I'm in a boxing match with a ghost). Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

After my 1st ride over 100-120km/h (60-75mph) and planning to join mates on longer trips, I knew I needed a screen. Being out here in Africa doesn't help even when ordering cheapish ebay items, due to postage and import duties.
So yesterday, I made my own. After deciding on design and approximate height, I made a template from paper and lots of measuring, cut out the template from a sheet of perspex and the started playing with the heat gun.
Fastened it with 10mm longer s/steel screws, due to having rubber washers on both sides.
Had to do some iterations between bending & fitting. Multiple free-hand bending meant the near-symmetrical design ended up having to be modded slightly, but I'm OK with the end result.
The overall shape mimics the black & white stock parts. Sides are abt 50mm wider each side and the top is same width as the black cover. From top of the headlight to top of screen is abt 280mm. Cost was about US$25.
Here's the result - it also acts as a headlight cover
I still need to add a little clear rubber bung at the bottom tip, so the end would have a brace against the headlight in case a stone strikes.

Added a slight 'flip lip in the middle as a finishing touch:

I've done a quick test at up to 120km/h (abt 75mph) and it feels strong enough using the standard mount points, probably partly due to the bends along the length. You can't really see it in the pics, but it has a slight ridge up the middle, then the 'flat' part where the screws go, then the more obvious bend where the black cover ends and the white back cover bends away.
I may need something still a bit bigger for the open road - I'm 1.86m / 6'1 and will likely have a custom "tall" seat done. So I'll do v.02 on the weekend.
Happy to share design drawing with measurements if anyone is interested.
Here's an even better idea - ride with it in your desired position until you get to the trail head - stop, and turn it UP-SIDE DOWN - then go and do the bundu-bashing with it totally out of your way. I had a 20" Madstad on my late Terra and that worked just brilliantly for me.Rode with the 18in Madstad for the first time this weekend. Excellent windshield. Word of warning to anyone buying: push it down and forward prior to doing any serious off roading. I was hit in the face almost immediately when I got to the trail. Pushed it down and forward.. .but still got nailed in the chin bar one other time later in the ride. Might have to pull the thing for serious trail duty in future![]()
