    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Windshield?

Well....I have tried the OEM sheild.
I am sure glad I did not pay full retail with shipping, that is an awful small piece of plexy for the price.

I dont get any buffeting, my head is WAY over the bad air.
However, I dont get much coverage either, my upper chest & shoulders are well in the wind zone.

Its an improvement, but not quite as much as I had hoped.
I will stick with it for now, its better than nothing with no down sides for me.
I do like the looks and simplicity, but I will keep my eyes open for another slightly larger one that mounts like the OEM.
 
Well your pics convinced me Hunter. I just ordered one. Cost less than a hundred bucks more than the OEM one. About $270aus with the small windshield and mounts delivered from England to my door. Pity the arse has dropped out of the aussie dollar. Hope it's tall enough for my 6'1" height.
 
Well thought vstrom madstad brackets would work but a little too wide for shield so bought an MP cycle designs custom shorty windshield for a weestrom from an a buddy today. had to do some finagling drilled a couple holes in the brackets and made the holes in the shield wider and bent the brackets. OK a lot of finagling but wow looks very cool will give you the low down on protection tomorrow.

was skeptical of the v in my new windshield but I have to say it rocks. riding on the freeway (going at least the speedlimit) my head got air but consistent no buffeting and sides of chest well decreased via windshield.

It looks pretty darn cool too. I'm getting my google on and I'm not seeing a website for MP Cycle Designs. Where do you get these?
 
I guess that is the issue I heard they may not make them any more I got one from 4 years ago used. If any one knows someone who fabricates windshields I can get some dimensions to replicate. I really like the height and flow.

I installed OEM windshield on my Terra, a bit higher than stock, but still so many turbulence on my face and helmet. It not possible to fix diferents angles.
could you tell me about turbulence air in your system.. ?
i am almost 6.1 so your opinion is great to see is it is worth to buy your system for touring exclusively.
 
I am 186 cm tall and I have previously driven with two different homemade windshields. The widest of these were good at removing wind off my chest while keeping my helmet in reasonably pure wind. When I got palmerproducts windscreen i chosed the medium size windshield. It is adjustable in many different angles and I've been experimenting a lot. I have noticed that I am now often run much faster before I feel the wind as disturbing. The more I move it forward and up,the more turbulence, i get around the helmet, while the pressure on the chest decreases. But I think that it is adjustable in so many angles that I can find something suitable for all types of weather and runs witout getting to much noise. I would perhaps like to have it a little lower at some times, but it is possible to mount the screen a little lower in the attachment but I have not tested that yet. Maybe the small sized windshield had been a better choice??? Compared with previous bikes I have had (Honda Africa Twin 750 with MRA varioscreen and a Yamaha XTZ 660 Ténéré with the original screen), I think this is the best windshield of all and I think it is the best buy for my Terran after the boosterplug. However, it is not completely free from noise in the helmet , it is after all motorcycle driving. :D I also think it's quite a difference in how I experience the wind depending on which helmet I use.

to see your best way air off. Can you tell me if you fixed to the mask directly??. Do you think it is supported enough by the mask, at high speed.?

I also have a Palmer Products windshield and bracket set. I can absolutely vouch that the build quality is top notch and rock solid! It mounts directly to the main white cowling and i can assure you it does not budge.....solid! Makes a huge difference at freeway speeds. Really moves through the air and cuts down on drag. As The Hunter said, things extremely adjustable. Big nobs for on the fly adjustment, great addition for the Terra.
 
Just got my Palmer products windshield and fittings in the post. Looks shmick! Will post pics when I bolt it on tomorrow. Didn't get the easy adjustment knobs though?

Edit: Wow, what a difference! Long hauls will be much more enjoyable now. There is a fair bit of reflection from the headlight at night. I haven't had a chance to play around with the settings yet. I will try at the uppermost position today.image.jpg

I was in Braintree (I live 80-miles away) only a week ago having my Terra serviced. I asked the guy at the workshop if he knew of anyone who could make me a screen and he didn't. Now it turns-out there is a manufacturer just down the road! Oh well. One concern I have about the PP screen, judging by the photos, is the gap between bottom of the screen and the cowling. Does much air flow through it; is it at all an issue? Also, does the screen vibrate much or is it satisfactorily rigid?

I rode 500 miles up to Bend OR / China Hat last month with the oem windshield. Which worked ok I suppose but it did require laying down on the tank bag to get by trucks/etc so the buffeting was reduced.
Then Bill put on one of his windshields on my bike cause I asked him to, and I liked that wind shield much better on the long ride back.

I noticed that someone (Ignaciaobob) removed the 'Splitfire' sticker and replaced it with a Husky sticker - that looks much better!
 
I fitted the OEM windscreen from new. I'm not a fan of big screens, don't like it when they start putting the turbulence at helmet height. The OEM does the trick for me, at 5'11", it puts the airflow around my neck, which keeps my helmet in clean air. Some more width near the indicators would improve it and take some air off the lower body, mainly to keep the rain away.

The only drawback is I'm getting some radial cracking from the screw holes after only 5000k. I've put it up as a warranty issue, let's see how it goes.
 
Warranty claim accepted, I wonder if the'll let me keep the other one so I can use it as a base for customising something?
 
Hmmmm...I'll have to keep an eye on mine! I did however put a rubber washer on either side of the screen when I installed it so maybe that will help. I just did not like the thought of screwing down directly onto the windshield (for that exact reason).
