  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Winter OIL

RideLI631

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have been running 10w60 all summer and fall and now that its freezing out should i switch to a thinner oil? 10w50? 10w40? any imput appreciated.

I run the same year round. Motors still get up to operating temps even in winter temps..unless you are talking arctic temps and something not in the norm.

Also, to overcome the cold start issue I think you would need to go to a 5w something. Like firebolter said, if it will start and warm up to normal temp then the 10w will be fine. I run 10-50 all year in my 610.

The first number that is followed by the 'w' is the winter rating and start up rating of the oil ... 10wt can be used in very very cold temps, not exactly sure what the number is but it is on line somewhere ... It is possible for oil to flow so slowly that the oil filter can be pass-passed at startup time and for some period till it is warmed up ... this is one of the areas to be concerned with in very cold weather ... Klondike cold ;0) .... SS filters flow so much, this issue is really not a problem with them ...

Moving to a warmer climate eliminates this issue and if the correct new home is chosen correctly, the need for multi-grade oils can be lessened or removed also ..
