• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Woodschick, Dusy- Ersham

I was wondering if you could elaborate on the Dusy. I've been wanting to go there but I don't know that much about it. How many miles? Do you ride it in one day? Do you take the highway back to the truck?
Your favorite pictures looked pretty cool. Is that a Gasser on the Dusy? Looked like it might be a Pampera but I wasn't sure. Thanks, TW :D

Dusy Ershim 31+/- miile trail from Courtright Reseroir to Kaiser Pass east of Fresno in the Sierras. Google it. All kinds of info out there. I rode in on my DRZ two years ago from Kaiser Pass. Fell 5 times in the firs 2 miles and called it a day. My jetting was way off, bogggggggg. I will do it on the TE510 though. Nothing like FI for 10,000 ft altitude.

I've ridden all over the western states and the Dusy-Ershim is probably the most scenic trail I've ever ridden. It gave me a new appreciation for jeep trails, that's for sure. It's a high-elevation 31-mile narrow corridor between the John Muir and Dinky Lakes Wildernesses.
I've done a few ride reports on it. Here's one I posted on a local forum that kind of explains how I found it and what it's all about. I also posted about 1000 photos:D

And here is another report I did from a ride a few months later. Not so many scenic photos, but I did a much better job of chronicling our desecent of Thompson Hill...

There are also some easier jeep trails in the area that are worth riding, too, but the Dusy is the granddaddy of them all. It's good to do the others first, though, if for no other reason than to get acclimated to the altitude and get your jetting right.

I'd be more than happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Huhh. Looks really cool. I used to live and ride in lovely Fresno. Had no idea that trail was there. I wanna ride that!

LOL!! I don't blame you for turning around! FI would surely be nice for that whole area. Did you ride any of the other trails there?

I live in the foothills outside of Fresno. I've been up to Coyote, Swamp, Bald, Mt. Tom.....all over the trails south of Shaver lake down to Balch Camp and Pineflat Reservoir....most of the rides up here.

OUr local BMW/Husky dealer has a dual sport ride every month. It is pretty tame for the first half of the ride, then we ditch the R1200GS crowd and the rest of the pretenders and really have some fun. :D

Here are a few more photos of the general area, including the Brewer Lake Trail...

The place really is a dual-sporter's paradise.

Brewer Lake is a pretty tame ride, but scenic. I take my kids up there (TC250 and TTR125). It is no problem for them. The rides into Swamp Lake and Coyote Lakes are a workout. Lots of steep climbing up rocks and roots.

Yep, hence the "dual-sporter's paradise" and "easier jeep trails" comments. It's really nothing more than a rocky dirt road with some big rocks at the end. I really liked it, though, because it had the lovely lake at the end that was warm enough to swim in. That, and I wanted to show what else was available in the area.

Swamp is on the schedule for the next trip down there.

Woodschick, Thanks for the ride report link. Awsome photos! :D TW

Thank you; the pleasure was all mine.

Let me know if you come to CA to ride the Dusy, ok?

Any plans to do the national enduro in AZ?

My buddy works that race almost every year. If I'm lucky I 'll be there to help. I haven't raced in quite a while and I'm a bit tentative to since my insurance is not that great and I can't afford to be broken. When I get in race mode I find myself riding faster than my ability. So i'm happy with a butt whoopin' trail ride when I find the time. The kids have busy schedules between Football, Soccer, Wrestling, and Baseball so it's been hard to fit in Racing let alone just riding. There enjoying school sports right now so we gotta go with it.:)
I am trying to schedule LA, B to V. I have some buds in California that do it every year so we'll see if that works out. Have you ever done that one?
TW
There was talk of doing the Dusy this summer but it didn't happen so maybe next summer.
