  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just a few days ago traded bikes with my buddy, got on his pretty nicely setup KTM 300 XC, could not wait to give it back to him. They always feel heavy and relatively slow handling to me.
I have to agree about the KTM 300. I rode a friend's XC also, and really thought it felt sluggish handling in the turns, yet not as stable in the straightaways as my WR 300. My 300 still handles pretty quickly for me, even after riding the little WR. I love 'em both!

I think it's all about fun and what you want out of riding.
I enjoy the challenge of taking my 125 up trails that my friends are using 300's to get up and the look I get when I'm right on their fender the whole time, when I'm out front the nimbleness of the 125 really shines. For me the difference is with a 300 I'm always letting off the gas and braking while on the 125 I'm part of the bike constantly shifting gears and wringing the motor to keep the rpm's up which for me is pure fun,the 300 I'm bored, you can have them.

I race a 2012 WR144 in the NETRA Enduro series as a B Senior and I see a few 144's at the events. I run sportsman in the HS's for fun and I'm pretty familiar with most of the courses. The 144 is a great bike and bullet proof. I sent the suspension off to Factory Connection and run a trials tire in the rear. The bike is incredibly quick handling and handled the A/B section climbs at the Berkshire hell in the hills with the trails tire, passed plenty of folks stuck. I struggled a bit on the massive climbs in the kemp stuart enduro A/B section last year, but in all of the races that was the only event where I could have used a little more power (I wasn't the only one). The 144 won't be the limiting factor running the C Senior HS courses in NE, being an iron man will help. I came off a KTM200 and had to learn to twist it a bit more, but once I adjusted it's huge fun.

Spot on ran two years of J-Day's ,Sr.C and Supper Sr., only the big sand hill climb in Monson gives me problems. Another rider tipped over or a large rock rolling down the hill forcing a line change will give it problems, just runs out of legs. Other than spare parts its a good bike, going to keep it as a spare for the next race season.

Interesting, I am going to do the same and keep the WR 144 as a spare after the snow run enduro. I found a screaming deal on a new 2013 TXC 250R, finally giving a 4 strke a shot. Rich

I have both but a 125 can do everything you want it to do In 2008 I won a National Hare and hound # 1 plate on a stock 125 against the over 50 expert class I also finished king of the moto and won Last dog standing on a 165
I raced my 300 last year in the Hare and hounds and also did well but had to spend a lot of money on it to make it run as well as the 125 did If you can only have 1 bike go the little 125/144

When I bought my leftover 09 WR250 in late 2010 I made a hard choice to go 250 instead of 125. If the 144 deal would have been available I would have jumped on it. I'm really happy with my 250 but I'm certain I'd be happier with a 144, I just don't want to go to the expense of starting over with a 144 now that I've set up my 250. I think I'd like the cr144 better than the wr and I've been hoping to get the funds to buy one used but there's been a few unexpected expenses that have prevented me from taking advantage of a couple of really good deals.

Here's a whole other perspective. I've got aTE449 that I mostly play ride with but just entered and finished my first hare n hound. I will likely enter another 4-5 events this year but am already thinking about getting something lighter if I stay with racing. 250+ pounds that are kinda top heavy can be tough after a few hours. My old IT 200 feels like a toy in comparison.

I was already looking up ads for 250/300 2 stroke bikes today just to get a feel for what a nice used one will run me. Flat out across the desert sounds like toasty piston territory on a tiddler, though I'm sure ajaxauto could likely wax me properly on his small bikes.
