  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Yet another oil question

I've been using the factory spec'd Repsol synthetic 10-60 since new and have over 2,600 miles on it, but at over $13 a quart am considering another option. In my cars I've used Ams Oil synthetic for over 30 years and get a discounted price. I totally trust their product, and they do make a 4-stroke motorcycle grade, but only offer it in either 10-40 or 20-50. Let's hear some opinions - keeping in mind I have an 08 TE 300 with 2 of the clutch springs out for easier clutching.

Everyone loves an oil tread! Ha! For what it's worth, I'm on the Amsoil train right now too, running 20-50 in my TE310. Don't have any clutch issues, same deal, 2 springs removed, and won't know how the innerds look till I tear into it, but from past experience I'd say it's a safe bet everything will be just fine. Change it regular, shouldn't be an issue with any good oil designed for bikes. Have been using Shell Rotella in all of my thumpers up till this point.

I second that. Any good motorcycle specific oil when changed regularly will do the job. I personally stick with the synthetics. In my TE 250 I found that the AGIP 10w-60 seemed to provides the smoothest shifting. It's not too bad pricewise either ($11/ quart). The Elf Moto 4 XT Tech is great stuff too. You can get it for a good price here:
