  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC 701 Enduro It's official!

And then you are going to need that white, blue and yellow gear! I don't worry about color coordinating, or haven't, since I have multiple brands, but with the 701 I might have to spring for the "correct" uniform. A proper bash plate will probably take care of the missing undercarriage (never noticed that) but if the tank is structural, it will be difficult to get extra capacity. The 701 is just begging for a long ride.

The 690 enduro has a nearly identical fuel tank set up and there are additional fuel solutions available. Husky is working on some of their own. Justgastanks.com has one for the 690 IIRC.

You can get front tanks that replace the front fairings, i think Safari does one, maybe IMS also. A decent aluminium bash plate was good enough top never leave me with any problems. I took the view riding a few times, each time you hear a loud 'donk' you know it's money well spent.

I have been following the KTM 690 forums for over two years and NO ONE has cited issues with the fuel tank itself failing - even when carrying a heavy load with a heavy rider. There is no issue here.

There is an issue with the OEM fuel tank supporting bolts on the bottom and top of the tank needing to be replaced as they have bushings that are inadequate and/or bad design - but this is an easy fix with aftermarket parts($100USD). Bad KTM design and they didn't fix it over several years......This is something you need to replace asap.

The only problem with the fuel tank is the stupid OEM design to fill it without getting dirt in the tank (kind of like the 511 tank design.....) There is a $100 USD solution that totally fixes the fueling issue. Bad KTM design and they didn't fix it over several years......This is something you need to replace asap.

My wife and I both have 2015 690's with a little over 2500 miles each - they have been perfect. No flame outs, no oil coming out of the airbox, no oil consumption, just no problems. We had the suspension blessed by Tom Watson in Hood River, OR with great handling improvements - Huge aftermarket support on outfitting parts for whatever activity you want. This is a great motorcycle - we love them. It was the only real dual sport bike my wife would ride as it is only 50 lbs heavier than her 310. She (and maybe me) didn't want to pick up a 800 BMW. We use Safari tanks and Giant Loop bags in back and tank bag - no problem camping for a week long trip in September. Having 690 power with a bike that weighs only 50 lbs more than my 511 is worth a test ride. Hard on back tires........

The 690's have been a heck of a lot less hassle than setting up my 511 (and I love my 511). My 511 has had no parts fail as well (without my crash and burn) to date.

I don't follow the KTM 10,000 mile oil change recommendations, I will go no longer than 800 miles. I use Mobile 1 0-40 with SS filters (thanks Tinken). Australian UNI air filters - use bearing grease around the filter/airbox (Only use the Austrailian UNI filter - the US UNI filter is reported to have fitment problems) Get rid of the OEM paper filter immediately - people report they leak dust into the airbox.

When ZipTy and Tinken gets after this chassis it will be really cool!

So did the conversion. Just $12K USD and you can have one.

But that's including a lot of European taxes and such, right?

I've heard they were looking at $11k here, but may be lower.
Remember the 630 started at $9k and dropped to $6k

Maybe, but when a 501s lists for over 10K, it's not hard to imagine that price for a bigger, more technically sophisticated bike.

I'll be curious to hear reports on the WP 4cs suspension. I hope they have cured the harshness.....

The system of a larger fuel tank Husqvarna has already presented at the Italian motorcycle fair EICMA (Milan) have also introduced the system of bags (bags) for luggage. To me, I do not really like those side bags. I do not like the topcase.

The seat is more comfortable than the KTM690 is flatter in its middle and rear. A friend who visited the EICMA climbed in it and has confirmed that it is more comfortable.

I like the concept design I did before Husqvarna EICMA presented in their prototype fuel deposits side.

What design do you prefer?

Greetings from the Canary Islands

The rally version looks great and would be an instant top seller imho. Me being tall, I'd prefer a tall flat seat on the rally but that's just me. In regards to bags? I guess the hard boxes seem better. The soft bags look worthless.

"This is a personal design work and is not an official project of Husqvarna Motorcycle" I s'pose that says it all......

A "turn-key" adventure bike doesn't work for most people anyways and i have no doubt that the good people of Rally Raid and Dalby Moto etc are already eyeballing the 701 to see what design changes are necessary to accomodate their KTM 690 fairings, tanks and luggage options. It's an exciting bike fer sure. Still waiting to hear a price in Australia and if all the exisiting KTM dealers will run with this.

Finland's first sold 701 Enduro.

Winter and snow equipment installation is started tires and others accessories. This picture is with standard equipment, more to come as I get everything installed
