I've been using a lithium ion battery for a few years now in both my bikes and cars. The only problems I've had were self inflicted. When I accidentally killed the one in my car, I pulled one out of my bike and used it up until it was time to put the car away for the winter. It's only a small 4 cell, and starts the car even at freezing temps. Not well, but it always started it.

The battery is the little yellow and orange thing on the right

blimey there's almost space there for an extra tyre mate! good job. amazing that a 4 cell is enough to start a car. awesome.

-4° celcius last night and at 0° today. was sluggish to start this morning but it started!

I've owned 2 Tuntec's and both failed within a month. One from a "bad cell" as Turntec put it, and another from a internal lead defect. I told them to keep the bad ones and send me my money back. They refused and sent me a replacement which I gave away. I've owned 5 Shorai's since '09 (I think). Never an issue. Have one on my Harley and it cranks it like an F-16 jet! Love my Shorai's. Funny how experiences differ.

What size lithium ion battery is needed for a 600cc single (# of cells of cranking amps . . .)?

hey matey. i got mine on ebay. it was £110 with free postage. just looked to see if the seller i got it from has any more but he's not listing them anymore. could drop him an email? it's for a YTX14-BS LITHIUM ION and the seller's name is majwik. otherwise this is basically the same but more expensive - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R-120...61?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item19d5090aa9

i asked moty design a vaguely similar question and they suggested 8 cell. although if you look at zomby woof's post above, he has a 4 cell starting a car! as for cranking amps all i know of mine is it apparently has 210...

My Moty for the 640cc CCM is 8 cell. Think I´d prefer an eight for a 600cc.

FWIW, these are NOT Lithium Ion batteries. They are Lithium Iron batteries. They are somewhat similar, but different. Lithium Ion is probably what's in your laptop. Lithium Iron is what's in your bike or car (if you are an early adopter anyways).

I recently have been looking into EarthX lithium iron batteries, they are warrantied down to 8 volts.

I fitted my new Moty battery today. It's the high impact plastic one. 1.5lbs I'll have to check, but I think it's 280cca. [IMG] with a little foam around it it fits a snug as a bug. Seems like a good product![IMG]

Edit: here are the specs. [IMG]

Looks like you better plug your phone in soon! How do the "quick disconnects" work? Thanks, Larry

Have got the disconnects on my CCM. They are well worth the small extra price.

I ran a Ballistic on my SM610 for nearly a year. About 9 months I think it lasted. When it failed and I took it where I bought it (BMP), Bryon was pretty incredulous that it lasted as long as it did, mentioning that of all that they'd sold, mine lasted the longest. Ballistic wasn't responsive to his queries, which made going to a Shorai (what BMP now carries) even easier.

The Ballistic battery needed to "wake up" every morning, requiring some load to come up to full power (several 2-3 second presses of the starter button before it would spin enough to start). The Shorai spins my engine first push of the button. The Shorai also came with precut foam pieces to pad the battery and tighten the battery box with. The Shorai was a few more dollars (Bryon took care of me on the whole thing, as usual), and it's worth every penny.

I´ve had the Moty in my CCM now for a couple of years. I´ve completely emptied it twice and it recovered afterwards on a normal charger. I´ve got the Shorai in the Husky 630 but I like the Moty `cos it´s smaller in its plastic wrap.
