Yes, you can tell from midrange up (5k to 7K rpm - 3k range), the KTM has a high rpm cam, which is good IF this is the range you ride in normally. It is very stressful on you and the bike to maintain constant high rpms, especially off road (and on road, it will take your license away). The Terra engine is pretty close to perfect in performance reliability mix.

Now I see why Pierer is so nervous about the competition :applause:

To be honest I dont believe that is a KTM 690 being taken into account. Rather earlier 640...

KTM 690 is evaluated here - blue is stock (60 HP) and red is 'open-muffler' (67 HP).

Dyno figures are always all over the place. Depends on the dyno and the operator and the corrections they do and the conditions that day, and the rear tire, and the gearing and... What is good info is that these are all done on the same dyno by the same guy. I have no reason to think they posted erroneous info. They also make stuff for the 690 and probably sell WAY more for that bike so it is not like they are trying to control the number to work for them. I always take Dyno charts with a grain of salt and use them only for comparison.

True. A single bike on a dyno can be throttled to tell lies in both directions. When you have a 2 or more bike comparison, at least you have an assumed base measure. 5 hp difference is virtually nothing in disjointed runs (humidity, operator, heat, rear tire worn-out, time of day, motivation, ...). For the KTM alone analysis, an 8 hp difference, you would however suspect a tuning change is required for the near 70 hp run on the open drag pipe run. Both of those runs on the same bike did not indicate the high rpm cam (which is usually reserved for drag racing exclusively), as indicated by the first comparison runs. So something is different for sure, but I'm not quite sure with the limited runs available. I would lean towards the multiple comparison runs versus a single marketing run.

Does anyone know how and if the cams were changed on the Husky 650's top end from the stock G650? There was already a nice Rotax cam on a stock G650. There were no increased deviations in mid or top end (where oem's traditionally like to 'juice' the hp at redline), so it is a reliable cam version regardelss (although a "high lift, short duration midrange cam" would be a hoot (!), like Web cam's for Bombardier DS650 - pre-2000 BMW F650 engine with carbs run from 2000 until 2008 for atv's.) A cam is probably not needed on the Husky 650 with the top end work already done.

    Here is what I found...

What's New: Husqvarna's TR650 is an all-new global motorcycle that capitalizes on the booming dual-purpose segment. Available in two variants—the off-road $6999 Terra and the street-biased $7499 Strada—these minimalist rides are built around a 652-cc engine sourced from the BMW G650GS and modified for punchier performance. The Chinese-built single-cylinder workhorse features a lighter piston, a modified fuel injection management system, a higher compression ratio, larger valves, and a modified cam profile which helps boost output to 58 hp, a 10 hp increase.

Thank You! I was just looking at the Husky site and saw it. Yep, I would not touch a thing on this engine.

I posted a video in another thread where they compared the new 690 Duke to a 650 Strada. The BMW engine delivers very smooth manageable power and is pleasant to ride. I am skeptical about the dyno charts posted between the Terra and KTM690. I have ridden enduro 690 is very powerful by comparison and about a hundred pounds lighter in weight which is a key factor not shown on a dyno.

Measured up the mufflers last night. 2 inches longer but the same diameter. Should fit in there just fine. Hole is about 3x as big so huge flow I am assuming verses stock pipes.

So do you have to fab up some flanges for the three bolt mounting system of the new mufflers?

....that and no restricive CAT as well!

I bet the sound will be fantastic. That 610 you posted and my 511 both had those mufflers and both sounded / sound great. My 511 is perfect, sweet sound but not loud.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I just want to sort out all the "chip" options.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16463654&postcount=1 - this seems to be a nice option just tricks the computer into thinking its 20 degrees colder - it has an option for warm or cold weather. $90

booster plug http://www.boosterplug.com/shop/boosterplug-husqvarna-233p.html - essentially the same thing but 60 bucks more expensive and only has one setting. $150

Powercommander completely replaces the stock computer, programmable maps, and optional "optimum" fuel/air ratio 02 meter. Their site is slow / not responding now but I think its $300 + for this option.

I don't have any experience with these how much difference is there between the "trick the computer" chip and the PC that essentially replaces it?

I don't really have any experience with it either. The booster plus and other plug from ADV is basic richening where the PS is an advanced built map(s). I would think these are MUCH more accurate and you would expect more power and MPG from that. I am also getting the Autotune part which hooks into the PC5 and reads your o2 via exhaust and then builds EFI tables based on a air/fuel mixture you predetermine. So basically it should run near perfect in theory. Then you can tweek the EFI tables all you like and save several of them for loading. also a remote switch to choose between maps. He told me this is nice cuz you can have a power map and a MPG map type of gig going.

so the to inexpensive plugs are basic richen it up so it runs better where the PC5 is the high end fully programmable remappable solution.

    No hijack, good discussion.
