Christ more..more..more... Already feeling behind the curve on my well running uptite 167 vs the WB 165... Now this... I can't keep up
I've been reading these threads on these "no jets" carbs with interest although my Husky has FI. (My "beater" bike is a blue smoker which may get a Lectron) A friend ended up with a 09 TXC250 cheap and wants to sell it cheap - all because it's so f+++ing hard to start! My opinion is that part of the fault is that the kicker doesn't spin the motor fast enough - but my "Q" is : anyone think one of these APT's or Lectron's might make it start easier ?
MikeB, did he try a JD kit for it? not sure if the '07 TC250 is similar but i installed a JD kit when new, my bike has always started SUPER easy. so easy that i've fired it with my hand in the garage by accident before! runs clean and crisp.
Those should not be real hard starting. Make sure the valves are in spec, good gas, check the auto decomp is working 100% (sometimes an issues on those and they will not turn over right). the FCR is a great 4 stroke carb but complex and confusing to many. Make sure all the there stuff is right before trying a carb swap on that bike. All that said I have not tried a Lectron on a 4 stroke but would like to. I bet it would work great on bikes that come with non FCR cheaper crappy carbs like a DRZ350 or something.
Maybe when you send the Lectron for my WR300 you can send a loaner 4stroke carb to try on my DR350/441! It has a Mikuni TM33 bored to ~35mm and its been nothing but fantastic. It has all the Kientech magic including the vortex airbox and oversize header into a FMF Q4.
This may be a stupid question, but how does the old TMX (stock on my 07, I think) stack up against the TMXx, jetting and performance wise? I don't really want to start a new thread for a simple question.
IMHO the TMX is far less finicky and EZ to jet. The TMxx Seems to be a top end king. With the JD jetting it fixes the stupid needle they put in that TMxx and makes it much more like a TMX, will run real nice and still pull hard on top. Neither are as smooth or controlled as the Lectron IMHO but both can be made to work very nicely.
Thanks for the quick reply, and info. One more thing, how can I tell which one I have? I think I have the TMX, because it says TMX, not TMXx. In the end, I will probably get a Lectron or APT (leaning towards Lectron), because in my view, its a investment, it can be switched to other bikes, and it saves gas..... I'm just trying to make myself feel better about spending $300
The TMxx has a really odd kidney bean shaped slide, the TMX is rectangle. My TMxx has no TMxx cast on it. Pretty sure you have a TMX
I just ordered my Lectron! I feel better spending $330 on the Lectron than spending about the same to have the TMXx modded and JD jetted.
I just ordered mine from Kelly. It will be nice to actually ride for a whole day instead of ride,re-jet,ride,re-jet!
