I had my needle at 3/4 turn leaner than delivered. It felt great, but I thought I'd mess with it to see if it could be better. Yesterday I adjusted it another 1/2 turn leaner and went for a ride today. It definitely wasn't right. I turned it in a 1/4 turn, richer, which puts it at 1 turn leaner from delivered and it's spot on. It was cold and snowing today and everybody sold out. I rode for about an hour and a half by myself, which I really don't like doing, but had a smile on my face the whole time because of how good the carb worked. Now if it could only heat up my frozen wet toes when I'm riding. (Broken fender is from a tangle with a tree last week) I'm not understanding what you are saying here. Is it because it's an old Lectron carb that you can't adjust it a quarter turn at a time?
No you cant adjust it in quarters as the slide and metering rod are different, the rod is held with a tiny grub screw that locates on a flat area so will only go full turns I realised today its drilled on the oppsite side so if you turn it 180 then turn the rod 180 it gives 1/2 a turn All said and done the carb works faultlessly and to think I nearly tossed it away
Add me to the list of believers! Just fine tuned the Lectron after putting a new ring on my WR125,I'm extremely happy with the way the bike runs, more power everywhere and the throttle is very crisp. It's hard to believe how much this carb makes you feel like you're on another bike.I did notice the exhaust smells different, maybe because the fuel gets atomized better? I give the Lectron two thumbs up and a big smile!
But you can't ride with 2 thumbs up. I give it a big smile and a tail wag. Glad it's working great. and I wonder if a new slide and rod would work in the old carb. A 1/4 turn seems to make a big difference.
The old lectron will adjust in 1/2 turns. turn the holder around and there is another screw hole on the other side. Dwight
I installed my Lectron on my 300 yesterday (what a joyous chore that was ). It did start and idle afterwards, but seems too rich. I will have to adjust. I still wish that it was a nicer fit. I was wondering if there was a shorter engine intake boot that could be used in place of the stock one. There is room to move the carburetor forward at least a half an inch.
Off topic: Noticed Dirtdames rear brake rez., Time to flush the brake lines...ever had one boil? Disconcerting to say the least..
Yep, when it gets dark in color it means the fluid has absorbed moisture and that lowers the boiling point. I remove the screw that holds the reservoir to the frame and dump out the fluid and then refill it with new about every 6 months or sooner if it gets dark in color.
Soooo anyway....I am thinking of leaning out the adjusting rod one full turn, based on what I have read so far, and then see how that works out.
From reading all the previous posts about Lectron carbs it seems that those who bought the 36mm are having to lean them out more than those who bought 38mm. About 1-2 turns on a 36mm seems to be the norm and 1/2 - 1 on the 38mm. It makes sense if you think about it.
My mate Trigger rode his 125 now fitted with my old 36 Lectron yesterday and even when he was completly Knackered at the end of the day he could not stop blabbering how good this carb works! over the moon would be a understatment. So after three hours the exhaust was totaly spoogeless and never missed a beat He even offered me money for it Now that is a first . My 165 with 38mm was absolutly brilliant throughout the day but did have a tiny bit of spooge. Did notice a very strange thing with this setup and perhaps someone could offer some insite If I ride down the road at a constant 35mph or say at around 1/8" of throttle after a while the bike sounds like its blown a main bearing !! is a sort of rumbling sound, It stops instantly if I open the throttle then go back to 1/8 then will start again after 30 seconds or so !! dosnt sound like pinging / detonation but maybe is !! I did richen it up a bit but still it did it again tonight If anything I am now to rich at idle so will have to adjust back to where I was or a tad leaner Never heard this noise before ever, but its definatly either a rich or lean thing at a constant small throttle opening, open the throttle more to say 1/4 every thing is perfect and no strange noises at all I await your thoughts guys
GOOD QUESTION, THE OLD TMX WAS LONGER FROM WHAT I HAVE READ BUT WHAT WAS SHORTER THE INTAKE OR THE AIR BOOT? WHERE DID HUSKY TAKE UP THE SPACE ON THE TMXX?
I thought it was mentioned somewhere in this 30 page thread, that the earlier airbox boots were shorter.
I concur, it does get a little easier after you do it a couple times. Sounds like a good starting point. You will probably want to fiddle with it a few times to make sure you are at the optimum setting. I'm at 1 turn leaner than delivered, but my bike with the TMXX required larger pilot and main than any one else seems to be using here. 50 pilot and 460 main. What people are using near sea level, I was using in CO at 6000 ft.
Somewhere back there I think I read that 08 and older had a shorter air box. So far I'm OK with my 09 but it is pretty close to the shock.
It would be good to know for sure. Its a lot easier to change the reed side in this case. I was thinking of maybe buying a rad valve from a Honda cause its made from aluminum and can be milled down for a perfect fit.
