I just filed also, with the NHTSA. I've been having incredibly scary stalling and hesitation issues since odo was reading 2500.
The documents associated with the NHTSA recall which you can read if you expand the associated documents on the NHTSA recall page are enlightening from a couple of perspectives one of which is they no longer refer to the diagnostics system as MOSS, it is now called the same as the system they use on the cars which is ISTA, it confirms the roll out of the full software to the BMW Dealers and would mean those Dealers "should" be in a position to reprogram the Terra The other aspect is they are referring to specifically the BMS-E and operation of the idle operation and one clause is interesting "idling is occasionally unstable (most often after long journeys)" this is precisely what Mag00 reported recently after being out testing his clutch and we know the Terra firmware was written by the same team of engineers at the same time as the Sertao To me it confirms the importance of everyone inclusing ROTW owners lodging NHTSA reports so NHTSA is painfully aware of similar problems with the Terra
Just a bit of information. The official KTM - Husqvarna diagnostic computer has the software and data in it to service and update the older Husky models including BMW build models. However the interface (adapter) to KTM build machines that is included with the laptop does not work with the non KTM build bikes. What I just stated is confirmed and any dealer who has the tool can check and confirm this. However, and this is just hearsay, KTM wants the dealers to fork out an additional sum for the adapter to access the older bikes. Most dealers are naturally reluctant to do so for obvious reasons. I can't comment much more on this, but I hope the info helps to get some issues solved.
A pic of the interface supplied by KTM to the Husky dealer you were talking to would be rather handy, the dealer in Canberra has the right one for Terra/Nuda
mate, this is so misleading. KTM NEVER produced Red Huskies and this is what this forum is all about, I can only guess you are talking about blue/white Huskies being KTM built bikes, which this forum is not about. So, if a (new) blue/white KTM Husky dealer has an OSS Tool he can diagnose and program the TR650 (BMW built) bikes and any BMW dealer can too, but unless you know them they will say no as they are to up themselves. You can always ask them if they can see you VIN number and if they can, they can work on your bike. But they need the ICOM A and ICOM D adpaters, see below.
This is a typical response from someone who can't read! Lesson learned I refrain myself from being helpful next time. Nowhere in my text it says that KTM ever build Italian huskies, you think I'm an idiot?! All I said is that the KTM- and KTM build Husky diagnostic tool (which is the same) has the ability to access the old bikes as the software and bike details are in the tool. All it needs is a different adaptor which the dealer needs to pay for (again).
Yep. My local dealer has the KTM diagnostic tool (He's was a Husky dealer before/after the sale of Husqvarna but is not a KTM dealer) which he reckons has 90% of the functionality of the old MOSS system. All I cared was that the service spanner was gone from the dash when I collected the bike
From what I understand, the dealers don't actually own the new scan tool. The KTM tool is rented to each authorized dealer and is monitored by KTM to ensure that improper maps are not loaded on certain ECUs (for instance, loading an FE or FC off road map onto a dual sport s model bike). Unauthorized use of the tool can result in them being shut down by KTM. Since the software for the TRs is included and many dealers are able to connect to these bikes, I doubt there is some plot to make it overly costly to obtain the proper adaptor to connect. If KTM was trying to avoid the issue altogether, the tool wouldn't have any software for them at all.
So, have we narrowed down what is causing the stall. Does the ecu have an accelerator pump? Has any of the guys running the PCV worked on the accelerator pump? We can have a custom ecu designed for the bike. Eliminate the dash with a voyager. It might be cheaper then throwing money fixes that seem to get tuned out or just start running like crap.
Thanks. So the point is I could ask my local KTM dealer about using his dx computer to service and update my Terra - and if he looks at me like I have three heads, I'll ask him to call KTM and get clear info from the mothership. I will try that.
I am talking to Steve at Monster FI. They have a fuel unit based off of megasquirt. It is completely tuneable and has a auto tune module. It has an add on data logging module. The data logger logs all parameters of the ecu. It can help find what is actually going on inside our ecu's. It looks like the cost will be about around 640.00 with auto tune and the data logger. It appears the data logger my be what we need to determine what's up.
no probs, its just that if we want to get some go-forward towards a recall on the Husky, we really need to work on it in this thread and there's no time like now to try and get something happening, but everything I see being done is not linked together and because of that, it has no clought. I would really welcome someone coordinating a group approach......anyone keen...?
Well I will then, I looked for whether there was a recall in the UK as I had heard nothing from that direction and there is, VOSA Recall details below Description : The engine may stall when the throttle position is at idle and the clutch lever pulled. This as a result of a software issue and in some case the air intake may not be “leak tight”. Remedial Action : Recall the machines that are likely to be affected to download new soft ware to the engine management Electronic Control Unit and ensure the air intake unit is “leak tight”.
