Wow... Nothing like peer pressure. I was a little apprehensive after supper tonite but I thought "Hey if you're gonna put lots of hours on this bike you better be comfortable." So just before I order up from SC I better see if anyone else has something to say. Thx Roger it made it easier parting with my money...
I've had them do a few seats for me, they've all been great and bundy is great to work with. FWIW, I've installed a few seat covers myself on a number of other dirtbikes, but have sent all of mine to him to be fitted with their foam/cover setup.
I've looked at my new SC a bit since installing, and I think that one could carve the foam easily at the back rise to soften the transition from a bump into a nice slope. I still like the high spot on the back for luggage, etc., and doing this would make it more or less unusable for a passenger, but how many of us will ever carry someone? The foam is easy to cut/shape with an electric knife and it sands just fine with a disc sander. I don't think the cover would be affected as it will stretch down and assume the position!
I just spent a bit more time on my SC; 1700 miles over 6 days. AI find that I don't think about shifting my butt until somewhere over 200 miles, and then just now and then. Keeping in mind that this is a dual sport saddle, it's just excellent. I put in 350 miles today and I don't think I had to shift more than three or four times all day. Edit. I forgot to mention that the rise at the back is a little too close, and I'm a touch under 5' 10". Doing it again, I would take a knife or sander to the rise and smooth it out so the back edge is about 1.5" farther back. I wouldn't go much more than that as my Wolfman strap needs a flat to bear on. In fact. I need to look at that closely this evening and I will post up.
Last night I looked carefully at my seat and for "MY" setup, that is, my custom racks, the top edge of the seat rise could move back 1 to 1.25 inches and still work with the Wolfman over-the-seat webbing support. That would let the bump be more gradual so that it doesn't press into your butt all the time while on the highway. I may loosen my cover and make the modification, although I can live with it the way it is. I also set up my webbing buckles so that the buckle is way over to one side, not centered on the seat where you can feel it.
I just ordered a Terra 650. Should be here in a couple weeks. I had a great test ride and my only complaint was the seat. The rise in the back (for a passenger) seemed to kinda dig into my backside/lower back. I've noted this complaint (though not a major complaint) on some web reviews of the bike. Has anyone here switched to an after market seat to alleviate this problem? Thanks.
I spoke with Robert over at Seat Concepts a few weeks ago about the taller, no rise version they are working on. He sent me this photo... I just sent Robert a follow up email on an ETA for this design. Personally, I think this would be pretty much perfect! More leg room, and the ability to slide around a bit more.
I called Seat Concepts. Enter CAFEHUSKY.COM in the coupon code box to get the 10% discount. Will most likely cover shipping cost.
If you have access to an upholsterers staple gun, (or alternatively just find a local upholsterer and see if they'll finish the job for you) just unstaple the back half of the seat covering, shave the ridge of the hump down a bit to make it a smoother incline and then have the covering restapled. Never done this myself but I know people who do this to refine the seats on all bikes.
I put a SeatConcepts on mine and did a 200 miles ride. It is slimmer and was pretty comfortable. I do have some suggestions for them though.
Got my eat from Concepts, If your 6-2 or more, this is definately the way to go, Plus the carbon non skid shit works.
Hey Wadejesu, Did the taller seat make the bars feel too low again? I'm curious about the butt to bar feel with the new seat. I'm 6' 2" and my knees start talking to me after some time in the stock saddle. SC seems the ticket. Thanks for posting.
