I wanted to let you all know what's going on with the 2015 models. I had told you all that we were supposed to have bikes in August but at this point I still have not gotten pricing from Sherco on the 2015 models. When I went for my first visit to Sherco two years ago the Euro cost $1.21 US. When President Obama ordered the treasury to print more money a year or so ago, the US dollar lost about a dime in the next couple of months and continued to lose strength. On the last container I paid $1.39 per Euro. The dollar has gotten a tad stronger since then but not much. Anyway....I can't be competitive with the other brands at the current exchange rate and I have told Sherco that I don't plan to bring in any more bikes until the dollar gets stronger OR Sherco can lower prices. Since I haven't gotten pricing from Sherco I don't know if they will lower prices. I doubt they will/can. It's pretty hard for a company that sells 7000 motorcycles to be competitive with a company that sells 120,000 plus motorcycles. I get that but if Sherco wants to have a presence here in the US, they have to lower my prices. Please understand that this in no way should reflect on the quality of the product. The motorcycles are awesome but not profitable due to circumstances beyond Sherco's and my control. Hey....maybe our dumbass president and congress will get their heads out of the dark place they've put them and make the world feel better about our financial strength!
In the meantime, I have one new 300 2T and a couple of 2013 and 2014 300s 4Ts to sell. I also have a few dealers with those models in stock so, if you are interested, drop me an email or call me and I will tell you where the nearest dealer to you is.
One very important note....I will continue to stock and order parts for the bikes that are out in the field. I appreciate the guys who have bought bikes from me and my dealers and I have no plans to leave anyone hanging.

ha ha ha yeah everything is Obamas fault. Getting pretty tired of that. Sad news on the bikes. Think how much better things would be if we didn't spend thousands of US lives, 100's of thousands of Middle east families lives and 6 trillion dollars on a war against those who did not attack us... all "off the books" which ended in a global collapse, wall street meltdown and Bush and Paulson standing there straight faced asking for 900 billion no stings attached to dig out as they walked out the door!!! Add in the bill for the vets and all the ongoing residual crap of those three wars from our cowboy and chief at the time and yep, were broke.

that doggone Obama.....jeez cant even get a dirtbike without Barry getting involved..........PS Im not a fan...but lets get a grip or dose of reality here. there have been many years in the usual cycle of ups and downs where the EURO (or before EU) euro bucks/lire/kroners as well as Yen etc whatever were very strong and many years when the $ was strong. No politics here. Dirtbikes only. Hope for the best the Sherco brand in the new world market ie: both North and South America, those bikes are really nicely built/ thoughtout and engineered or reverse that order.

Ah TM had to take a year break too, it's all good. Sucks for him considering GG just booted him and now this.

10 years ago everyone was running to Canada to buy KTMs because of the exchange rate. Rob its right, it is all cyclical.

It really does suck for him. Spoke to him a few times, seems like a good guy. Going the exotic route is hard I'm sure.

That's what I was thinking. If someone really wanted one. They'd find a way. I'd just raise parts prices. Alright go them after they bought a competitively priced bike. Not to mention. There's not much of an aftermarket.

Really sucks that there's one less option, again. Oh well.

It's even harder when the small company imports 0 new models. If Gas Gas and Beta can find a way to compete against the big orange giant then surely Sherco can as well.

I'm in the UK, so cant give you a US political view :). But the original post has me confused ....

I will use Sherco as the example but this applies to anything exported, imported and sold on.
Sherco sells to Importer, at cost plus a percentage mark up.
Importer pays tax and duties, currency exchange etc..., figures in his profit, arrives at a selling price.
    Consumer buys at selling price.
So surely if the currency rate changes so must the selling price ?
If an extra tax was added , then the selling price would go up ?

My point is this seems a strange reaction ? If you need to put the price up, sure it may limit your sales,
but not as much as saying "I wont Import any bikes" ?
In a niche market, people will pay more for an "exotic" product if they want one !

The selling prices in the US are usually cheaper than most other places if you convert everything to US dollars.
For example a Sherco 300 F in the UK is £7450 about US$12300 , in Australia its A$12600 about US$12000.
I am guessing the selling price is less than US$12000 in the US ???

He cut the prices originally to keep them competitive with KTM. Now they would cost more. I don't think they'd sell well at all above that even being an exotic. It's not exotic enough like a TM and means nothing in racing here. The Italian Husky's were cheaper then all the other brands but when the rebates happen at the end of the year is when there seems to be a ton more sold. It basically takes the price of a used bike on a new one to sell a brand that most here would consider exotic.

I wonder how many Sherco's Clay even sold here.

    US price list:

Here is the pricing on the 2014 models here in the US only:
    4 Stroke
    SE 250i (with Sachs fork/WP shock) $7799
SE 250i Racing (with WP suspension) $8599
    SE 300i (Sachs/WP) $8399
    SE 300i Racing (WP) $8999
    MX250 (WP) $7999
    2 Stroke
    SE 250 (Sachs/WP) $7699
    SE 250 (WP) $8299
    SE 300 (Sachs/WP) $7799
    SE 300 Racing (WP) $8399
    XRide $7799

Also, our freight charge which was $375, has been cut in half to dealers. The $375 is really what it costs us to get the bike from France to the dealer. I am paying half and the dealer is charged the other half. Under this pricing structure, he will have to pass the freight on to you. This pricing puts us under all of the other main European brands. We are the only company to offer WP to compete with the orange company and Sachs to compete with Beta.
The margin for dealer and us has been cut dramatically to get this pricing. Some of the dealers who were going to be Sherco dealers before may not be Sherco dealers in 2014. We will clean out our dealer list and start over soon as dealers give us orders for 2014s. If you do not have a dealer near you, you can buy directly from us. Call or email me for total pricing, to discuss pricing, features and/or delivery. If you look at a bike at a nearby dealer but decide to buy from us, we will still pay your dealer a commission on the sale. You can buy parts from us that will be shipped directly to your door and your dealer will still be paid a commission. This is a new way to sell motorcycles in the US. I know that customers will love the bikes so give us a shot at selling one to you before you buy one of the other brands.
    Thanks for considering us.

But at a higher price he would sell more than if he Imports none !!! Maybe Import to order ?

I don't know the details but I can't see Sherco not wanting to sell bikes in the US .
They are on the up, producing great bikes (new 450 for 2015), why would you not want to sell in the largest market ?
My guess is they will find another importer if there are no bikes heading across the Atlantic.

So the 300 F (WP) that I used in my example is :

US$12300 in the UK , US$12000 in Australia and US$9000 in the US , maybe that's were the problem lies ?

Yeah I agree with that. Basically what I got out of it is he won't be able to make enough money for the distribution to be worthwhile. Interested to see how it all plays out

That's the going rate here though. Every manufacturer has made it work. Currently they are priced well and can go a little higher but not much. TM gets more exposure here. The product is being sold by following the national series and letting people test ride them. He said he doesn't care for the bike mags because they pretty much ruined GasGas here. There seems to be a lot to all of this and I'm sure it will work out regardless for Sherco because like you said, they want to be here

This a part of the reason, there are no longer Cagiva Huskys..... US is very price sensitive market and manufacturers, including KTM sell at lower prices.

Clay's initial success with GG, was based on the previous importer not being able to move bikes, because they were higher priced than KTM's. Clay bought them cheap and blew them out... everyone was in GG love fest mode. Then Clay had to start buying bikes from the factory at true cost and things slowly unraveled.

He knows US market won't absorb many $10,000+ dirt bikes and if he brings them in... they will sit until he blows them out at a loss. He rode up on the other guys loss, so he knows it too well.

There were times in W's tenure, that the Euro was $1.40 plus.

Sherco is competetive here in Aus on price, slightly cheaper for the regular models, slightly dearer for the limited edition Racing models
