I don't doubt the ability of the 511 to win races, but you know Kelly is getting up there in age and it might just be time to start thinking about something a little smaller, lighter and less power. Maybe the 165 is the better choice?
2x50 mile loops and everyone stops.....ya just gotta be able to make the 50 miles and you arent allowed to carry any fuel that isnt plumbed into the tank. I dont know how 165s do on fuel, but I have seen 511s make this loop with fuel to spare.
I have a 3.5 gallon tank and a Lectron carb on the 165, 50 miles is nothing. Nomad on the 511, both will do 50 EZ.
...and the 165 is putting the hammer down on the 511... When is the cutoff date/finish line for the choice?
Leaving friday, race is sunday. Probably taking the 165. My thought was to preserve it for the Idaho City Qualifier but got a month to sort that out.
Here's your answer, K. It's a race, run the bike that will handle race speeds the best. Plus as a bonus, kicking butt on a 10 year old bike is ..... way cool! Then there's the two-stroke smallbore thing.....
All the reasons I was thinking. BUT the big 511 got ridden out there last time and was fun with its big power. Honestly the 165 is soft on the suspension side but my fork springs are supposed to be here today.
I have been ridding the tires off the 165 since I built it last fall. It is an extension of me and I love it. One of the big reasons to get the big girl out (511) was to give her some time.
Thanks, taking the 165. Hope my elbow tendinitis is tolerable for 100 miles of racing. Was hopping it would be gone by now. Advil here i come :>) I guess it is obvious I am near the 50 cless :>) Been a rough couple of days and am now in scramble mode to make this race happen. See ya all there.
its Idyho...no brainer...165!!! mreeep mreeep mreeep to first place man make'm eat tiddler roost! braap!
That's good, because racing the 511 on stock TE suspension is pretty crazy. As far as your tendinitis goes, you really should look into flexx bars, they help all your upper joints.
