Yep, raced the 165. The motor was awesome. The gearing was not enough, slowed me down good in the faster sections only managing 51mph top speed. Could ahve used 2 more gears. I also screwed myself with my suspesnion settings that I had finally dialed after half the race. Full report coming.

Blake kicked ass. He was in 30ex class I was in 40 ex but i think time wise overall we are going to be neck and neck. He beat me first few specials when i was all over the place on my pogo stick setup in the rocks and I think i got him on the last two specials when he was sucking air and it was fast and dusty. We will see. I felt great after the race, moto fitness is good. This was in large part gear and bike testing for the Idaho City ISDE. I learned a lot and remembered some stuff too.

    165 in impound...

I see the Husky in there scaring them pumpkins :D. Sounds like you guys had a good time and the bikes were up to it. What gearing are you running K? I have a 50 on my WB165 and it sure feels like I'm going fasrter than 51 mph.

Humm is 13 the stock on the front or 14? I have the stock front what ever came on the 08 CR's. Just asking incase my mph butt-0-meter needs a re-cal.

12/50 is what I was running. 13 front was not enough. Needed 15-20 MPH more in many sections.

When I was last there I was running 14x49 and it was still not tall enough for some of the faster sections. The 165 will pull that gearing easily for 95%+ of the terrain at EFR.

So...did the masses lead you wrong?

Was it the right machine or would you have faired better on the 511?

hard to say. I think with taller gearing it would have been perfect. Big 4 strokes are really hard to beat out there. Lots of deep silt and straight FAST sections. I was in sixth gear a lot. In the end the 511 does not have a forestry approved sparky so it would not have got through inspection. I did feel really good at the end of the race and think I might have felt beat up on the 511. I think i would have turned in much better special test times on the 511 for the last two tests as i ran out of speed on the 165 (gearing) and i'm sure that cost me several minutes. A 450 or 250/300 is the right bike for you there. No big deal bike amazed me again and this was just a race for fun as I am not racing a series. Just a fun day racing with friends.

Going to let Ty redo my 511 suspension and then will race it a few times out there and see. Will take it to the fall classic in the same area end of the summer and give it a go.

It was fun watch that 511 front fender approach while hearing the 2 stroke sound track...
Since I was officiating during the race I took my 511 out on the Saturday poker run...a couple of times I actually wished I had put the bigger stock CS sprocket on....there are stretches that fast out there. The 511 didnt wear me out, but I only rode 40 miles. Lots of loose dirt on top made every corner an adventure. Skatey.

By the time I got done Saturday I was convinced that the 310 was the hot ticket....unfortunate Mark got a flat both days on the 310...front on Saturday, back on Sunday with 25 miles to go...pretty much screwed up the last special test time...I will post some pics this evening.

did you see the dude roll back in the pits on the rear rim, NO tire at all. He was a minute or two behind us and got that fat about 5 miles in. He tried and actually had good speed.

I was hoping no one would bring that up.

VERY, VERY humbling when you get passed by a guy with a flat on the trail 3 times....
