According to this link that SW Motech plate is 4mm (0.158") thick. Good to know that you can lift the bike with that thickness, and confirms that the 1/4" Motosportz skid plate that I have should never have a problem when lifting. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/sw-motech-skidplate-engine-guard-for-husqvarna-tr650-terra-strada-13 EDIT: I see from your smugmug pics that there is a front bracket which the front of the plate is attached - no wonder you have no problems lifting the bike with that plate, because the plate is not really supporting the bike, the heavy duty brackets are:
blaine - could you put a link to that for sale item in the classifieds? Not sure how many times I have to explain this, but this is what happens: people that discuss selling in these public threads have that information archived in the search engines forever other people will find for sale discussions years from now via search engines, and they will click on the 'Contact Us' link which will send me an email - cause that is what they think they should do. (people never read, they skim, and most do not notice the date of the information) dealing with things like that takes time, which I do not have. But I do my best to help them - because that is one of the things (at least in my opinion) makes this site a little different, I really try to help people instead of ignoring requests. If you people want to help, you could do something like this: "if anyone is interested in a Motosportz skid plate, here is a link to my ad in the classifieds: www.cafehusky.com/linklink" That way, when people click on that link, they will get an error - exactly the same as if they clicked on an old expired craigs list ad - then they will not bother me.
Just received and installed my skid plate today. Very pleased with quality, price ($109 US ) and source. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Husqvarna-TR650-Terra-Strada-Skid-Plate-2013-Bash-Guard-Frame-Glide-Cover-NEW-/271233530021?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3f26c738a5
Rugged, your bike look cool. Our blast shields are done. Look similar to above but more coverage. Going to anodize them black. If someone wants silver let me know today if possible. Or better yet I'll just hold some out of the batch. Pictures tonight.
It is a vinyl wrap job....great thing about it is if you ever get tired of it, just peel it off and the finish underneath is still brand new If I can ever stop riding the TR, I am wraping all of my white plastics in "3D carbon fiber" vinyl. Looks VERY much like the real deal. It is pretty inexpensive if you DIY, but takes a lot of patience. Vinyl shop quoted me $90 in materials, $220 total if they install.
I cannot begin to express how much I like my Motosportz skid plate. Put the standard bike stand under the bike, press down with my foot, lift it up, and I can work on the TR650 just like my other bikes Sadly I cannot find a picture at the moment.
Here are pictures of the wings. Love how they turned out. Sorry about the wait. http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/tr650-skid-plate-wings-pictures.34321/
Skid plate went on easy peasy with just a little tweak on the rear mount so it would fit around the spacers. I have to say I really like it and it's quite beefy. So I took the Terra out over the weekend and this evening after work on some trails where I could thrash it a little and man is this bike sweet! I love it more and more and more every time I ride it. I have to get some more aggressive tires on it but it sure is fun ripping around on the stock Saharas trying to keep them hooked up. Now I'm just waiting on the crash bars and a few other farkly items.
