Doh! I didn't notice the hardware in the photo. That explains it. Great pricepoint, but I think I'll hold out for something that mounts more securely.

Had a Moose Racing plate on my DR650 that mounted the same way. The plate looks almost identical (Kinda weird).....That plate took quite a beating and the hardware never came loose or gave me any troubles. If anything the way it mounts with clamps give you almost a fine adjustment for mounting the plate to clear lines, brackets etc.

Hopefully this one holds up like my old DR one did.

Not cool man, lol. Its kind of funny how i can order something from Western Canada or the States and the product will always show up faster from the States. Almost always cheaper too, even with paying broker fee's....Out here on the East coast if it isnt a Harley or one of the big 3 Japanees brands than allmost everything needs to be ordered.....kinda used to waiting for stuff lol.

I ordered a 2 brothers exhaust and FMF headers for my old DR from the southren states...had it in a week...same day i ordered my exhaust i ordered parts from Ontario....they arrived a week later and cost more to ship.....i give up trying to figure that crap out.

Why do you think that's not secure? I've used a number of skidplates, from Ricochet and others that use the same clamping system - and I have had ZERO issues.
Those bikes have done multi-day Moab trips, Death Valley, weeklong Baja rides....pretty good testimony to the kind of rocky terrain and rough use they've seen.

Same here I don't see any issues at all with the mounting, front or rear.

I sent a bike out for a ride of its own once after finding some unexpected loose sand in a blind turn. (Entirely my fault.) The result was a sideways strike from a tree stump to the engine and skid plate. It broke the conduit style mounts upon impact. Everything turned out OK in the end, but that was a much lighter bike. After that, I look at skid plates as crash protection for the bike's engine too, not just for the occasional scrape. Overkill, maybe, but if the cost for something a little more secure is only $100, then I consider that cheap insurance.

A sideways strike is likely to snap off all manner of fasteners, but in doing so they're absorbing the shock and saving the piece underneath from the same fate.

    It's doing it's job.

I've never had a failure of the clamp type, it's a very popular and flexible design.....and as your own post indicates by everything turning out OK, you had to replace a clamp and bolt - not an engine case.
I spend the bulk of my offroad riding in extremely rocky terrain, so I want the underside covered as well as anything above (oil filter housing, etc), and want protection when high-centering on rocky berms.
If I hit something sideways, then if the skidplate is involved at all I'd call myself lucky if it broke a clamp to save a case.

My Ricochet showed up today - very nicely made, as is all the other stuff I've received from them.

It did. Worst damage was a broken engine bolt in the case. That was a pain.

But, You are successfully easing me out of my paranoia. I'm not seeing a lot of options with good protection for that oil line. The B&B does well, but that seems about it. Would you say that the Ricochet successfully protects that line?

I like the price point and I want to convince myself that it will fit the bill.

Aarron from Twister Throttle wrote today and said they are getting some parts for the Terra on their next sea freight. Which are not yet posted on their web site.

    Yes they did.

Both are in their system just not on their web page yet. But in all the excitement I didn't really write down the quote he gave me... like always I just blindly rattled off my Visa card number.
I'm quite bad for doing that. Hey if I want it...it really doesn't matter what it cost. :busted:

Installed my grey/black Ricochet yesterday, looks good and fits well. The frame clamps are heavy duty not the cheap electrical ones someone posted a picture of, so thats not really an issue.

Kudos to the Ricochet guys for a good item at at decent price and for helping me out.I needed one for this weekend and they were out of the one I wanted, but managed to work it out and get me one quicker than I thought possible.

Any opinion on how well the Ricochet guards the oil line? It is hard to tell from the pics.

Motosportz skidder lookin just like it should....dirty! Very, very pleased. I chose Kelly's plate for the added structural support (Note: No other skid plate on the market adds protection AND strength to your bike), ease of cleaning, quality build, and to support Motosportz. Kelly, your contributions here are outstanding and appreciated.

After a lot of debate, I decided to go with the SW-Motech plate. I emailed Twist Throttle earlier this week, they said it would be in next week. Then I ordered and got a date a bit farther out. Here's there latest. I suspect there's a boat involved. There's all sorts of vendor stuff that frees up in the next month or so, looking forward to seeing the farkle updates.

Talk to Paul from T.Throttle said ship is due to port on the 15th. But said "Time the container is processed etc could be 20th or later"...then of coarse he has to ship it up to Canada which could take a couple more weeks to clear our customs...
