Like many of you, my 650 Terra stops on me, usually just off idle and usually when I am coasting through and intersection, and it gets bloody dangerous! I see there are many different types of aftermarket gizmos and mods to overcome this problem, but (correct me if I am wrong) they stuff up the dash temp reading. My question, 1. Why hasn't Husky/ BMW not released a MAP update or given the dealers a tool so they can tune this problem out, like they can with the all the off-road Huskys? My question, 2. Is there not someone who can tweak the factory map and resolve this issue?
The TR650 is not an off-road bike so it is subject to stringent emissions laws of some countries. Has been attempted - http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/rexxer-ecu-mapping.36483/
1. Yes, they have, but perhaps it is a dealer know-how issue? Mine came setup right from Eurosport Asheville on day one. Now, admittedly, it does run a little better when I let it idle, throttle untouched, for about a minute prior to taking off. Of course, most thumpers skip a bit when cold. 2. Yes, PCV with Autotune is your solution if you go that route. There are several threads on it here. Rexxer was trying something, but didn't come through in the end.
The AF-xied might be a way to go, It works right off of the O2 sensor and does not change the temp readout. Quirky is waiting on his bike back, but has it installed. He might be able to fill you in better on this device. The Moss tune from my dealer did fix my stalling issue. I still did the eruption mod. Just better driveability. I will still wait on the verdict on the AF-xied.
Just do the "ERUPTION" mod.. http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/all-tr650s-need-this-introducing-the-eruption.34831/
I would, if it didn't mess up the dash temp and strictly speaking Husky should correct this is as its a safety issue.
I'm beginning to wonder if any one cares about the TR's now the buck has been passed? The air box design, water in the swing-arm, over-heating, rear rack, rear guard and other assorted issues as mentioned on this site also need to be added to the list. Just to name a few!
Maybe you can fix the problem yourself by resetting the injection/throttle system. It´s known troubleshooting with the beamer. - disconnect the battery an leave it disconnected for minimum half an hour - reconnect the battery - turn the ignition key, but don´t start the engine!!! - wait about 5 seconds, only the neutral light shall be on (and maybe the abs light flashing) - now slowly turn and turn back the throttle 3 times - ignition off - wait a few seconds, minimum 5 seconds, more is harmless - now ignition on, wait 5 seconds and start the engine Never turn the throttle while starting!!! This will cause an error in the injektion system!!! I did this procedure yesterday on my Terra. After that it feels like a new bike Maybe some dealers did not do so after they connected the battery for delivery?
Don't think that the AF-xied will do much for the OP's symptoms. AF-xied at setting 6 made it feel smoother and felt like more torque midrange. Staintune's dyno isn't set up to track AFR's. ECU and it's ability to adapt makes for a big project. It needs better equipment and time to understand and analyse the data. Find a dealer with a Moss tool to update ECU. Or could try getting it to relearn it's fuel maps by disconnecting battery for a couple of minutes, start it and let idle until up to temp and go for a smooth gentle ride for 15 minutes. Then tuck your hands under your arms, squat down, now flap the elbows up and down. OK..... OK......... forget the last idea! Accurate Temprature on the dash, come on, do you really really need it?
Here in Germany the dealers advised against the standard ECU update. They told me it would not fix the problem but after the update the bike has less power I am satisfied with the result of the procedure described above
I let mine warm up for a minute or two while putting my helmet and gloves on. Never has stopped on me, though I have tried to make it do so after reading about it here. Might be the warmup routine, might be I just got one with a luckier mapping...
Hey thanks for that, I will try it after I reassemble the bloody airbox. It has been reset by my dealer using the MOS twice now.....no difference
[quote="Accurate Temprature on the dash, come on, do you really really need it?[/quote] Probably not, but we are papering over the cracks and not fixing the actual problem.
done this. Its completely random, BUT mostly it does when you coast up to give way or roll onto a round about, it will cut dead and then you in the poop frantically trying to get it started without stopping dead in the laneway with vehicles coming at you from all round.....not good.
Nail on the head TERRA-STORM, all KTM seem to want to do is kill the old Husky brand....go figure......?
I'm open for suggestions. I have exhausted all of my resources. If you know somebody who can crack into an ecu and create the software needed to alter the fuel maps, I am all ears. I even started to design a better spoofer, but, that is beyond my technical abilities, time to ride, so plug in the eruption and go. It is cheap and adequate.
I don't understand how Husqvarna is allowed to let this continue to be a problem. GM was required to issue a recall for their ignition switches which would cause their vehicles to die unexpectedly. How is this any different?
