Yeah, Eric hung around camp nursing his broken shoulder, but he took my 610 out both days and explored the dirt roads in the area...

Great report and beautiful pictures! Looks like it's extra green and has more water than usual this year, due to the heavy snowpack over the winter. I'm headed up there in a few weeks myself. I hope the mosquitos are gone by then, because they absolutely love me. :D

The mosquitoes were around two years ago when it rained every day of our trip in July, and they were around last August when it was dry as a bone. Take plenty of OFF, no matter what.:busted:

My Spidey senses tell me WoodsChick uses a Canon PowerShot A1000 IS, and DirtDame uses a Kodak EasyShare Z1485 IS. Well, it's either my Spidey senses, or the EXIF info in the pics. :)

Thanks, Muddy :) He's almost all healed up and is going back to work on Monday.

You are absolutely right. There was water in every meadow and every little creek crossing and gully. We would get swarmed with mosquitoes sometimes when we would stop on the trail. They were even out early in the morning. We did get swarmed by a raging horde of lady bugs, though, and that was ultra-cool  I wouldn't bet on the bugs being gone in a couple weeks.

    Yup...good advice

Thanks! It was fun to do :)

I'm sure there will be lots more in the future! I really enjoy doing ride reports and taking photos.

 I love the meadows there, it's such a beautiful place to be. Eric and I once did a dualsport ride there, me on my KTM 450 and him on my SV650 and we had just as good of a time as I did on the single track. I particularly enjoyed watching Eric ride the SV on the Monache Jeep Road :D

Thanks, Kelly! That really means something coming from you, Mr. I-Get-To-Ride-Some-Of-The-Most-Beautiful-Trails-In-The-World :)

Thanks, CKPC. I think it's safe to say that we both had a good time putting it together:)

I really enjoy seeing where other people get to ride, as a lot of it is really different from what we have at home. So when is your next ride report going to be posted??

Our 2nd day's ride was to be shorter since we both wanted to splash around in the river afterwards...

We started off down the Mahogany Trail...

    DirtDame coming down the switchbacks...

We headed up to the Bald Mt. Lookout for a nice view of the Dome Land Wilderness, a fantastic landscape of solid granite formations...

The hike up to the actual lookout at 9400' is very grueling in gear so we opted for the view from this wide spot in the road...

Can you see the teeny tiny lookout on top?

Back down to Mahogany Trail to Rattlesnake Trail...

    And out to Bonita Meadow...

What a lovely view, eh? :D
    [IMG]

Speaking of lovely views, this meadow on Beach Trail was spectacular...

The trails out on the western side tend to get ridden less because they're harder to get to and they tend to be a bit more technical...

Here she comes down the rocky trail...

We got back on Mahogany and headed back to camp. This outcropping has always been a tad scary for me, as the "tink" of footpeg hitting rock has put me over the side before on several trails, but DirtDame seemed to make it through with no drama...

We made it back after 40 fun miles and had plenty of time to head on down to the Kern River for some soaking. I was avoiding wine the entire time since the altitude can make me feel crappy and alcohol makes it worse, but since there would be no more riding I helped Eric drain the boda bag of a scrumptious bottle of 7 Deadly Zins :D We had a great time splashing and talking and soaking up the very warm late afternoon sun. The long night sitting by the campfire capped off a very fun and relaxing 4 day holiday. I think we all had a great time. Thanks for coming along with us
