Who's got their panties in a bunch? That is a weak response to no response to a response to your assertions. You lot just kill me with all of the rubbish about the weight difference between the 610 and 630.
That was for SM's not TE's, and if you feel that the website is rubbish then why are you getting so hot?
PS. SM630 is listed at 151kg and it is a fairly safe bet there is a similar difference between the SM610 and TE610.
That's odd, the Official Husqvarna website lists the SM630 as "Dry weight is 158 Kg". Go to the link below and read it for yourself - it's at the bottom of the page. Link
Okay, more credible source, but this is where we get into dry weight and dry weight ready to ride problem - ie everything except fuel. Which is used? The 610 is not immune to this problem either. Better to compare apples to apples or it is all for nought... or better yet get the bikes onto certified scales in the same load condition. It is highly improbable that the SM630 has picked up 9kg on the TE630. Likewise I find it highly improbable that the SM630 has gained 18kg over the SM610 when the similarities between the bikes are much greater than the differences.
Weighed my TE630 - 335 lb (Fuel tank full) Weighed my lightened up Suzuki DRZ400s - 318 lb (Fuel tank full) Compared the 610 parts fiche to the 630 and the differences that can be attributed to the 630 weight gain are: Steel subframe vs aluminum + 1-2 lb Dual exhaust vs single + 8-10 lb DOHC vs SOHC + 1-2 lb That's about it! I think if you weighed both the 610 and the630 on the same scales, 10 - 15 lb would be a reasonable weight difference. If you are worried about weight the 610 and the 630 are both too heavy!
My 269 pound Honda CRF450X feels a little heavy after riding my friend's 238 pound CRF450R - but I'm not racing it and having an electric start and an extra gear make up for it. My '08 SM610 feels pretty good on the roads I ride and the power to weight is nice too. All I was doing was quoting the weight figures for the 610 and 630 and was not trying to do anything but point out the difference in their weight. If you ride a 630 then enjoy it it, and I'll continue to enjoy riding my 610.
Willie, thanks for weighing the bikes for us and giving us some reference. I wonder what the suzuki weighed before lightening ?
323 lb Compact signal lights, smaller tail section with led light, removed passenger pegs, bar end weights, etc.
It’ll be interesting for one of us to weigh the 610 with all movement inducing fluids Anyone living next to a truck weighing station ?
I have owned an 06' 610 and then an 08' 610 and now ride a 2010 630 all SM's. They've got better and better since the 06. For the major comparison between the two I've done a thread on here and supermotojunkie (jsm610) as far as I can remember. But too save the time of those who can't be bothered too look, I haven't found the extra weight of the 630 an issue in the slightest, and I can't remember noticing it at all on the day that I picked up the bike when I rode the 08 60 miles to the shop and then took the new bike on a 100 mile ride home. Personally the other differences (Clutch, Headlight, Double overhead cams, revised geometry, better panels) out way (not weigh) the whole issue of a bit more weight. I'm pretty sure the only reason it ways more is due too emmisions rubbish meaning the bike has too stick too Euro 3. The stock fuelling for this means the bike runs pretty jerky but I still saw 116mph on the first day, though speed wasn't what I bought the bike for thats better than my 610 was even after the PU kit. Both bikes are awesome, I prefer the 630, though I'm sure anyone who's owned one does, unless they really have an issue with the weight, but that is likely too only affect the most hard-core of trail riders who notice small weight changes. Hope this helps, apologies for the long winded-ness, is before 9am here, I don't really function till 11! __________________________________ SMS630 2010 In London Town
Weighed my '09 a few weeks ago - 330 lbs with full tank, rear rack, bark busters and Corbin seat. The Corbin probably adds 2 lbs. Barkbusters and rack, maybe another 2 - 3 lbs.
I'd suggest you look at the KTM 690 Enduro. It is a better bike. If you trust the media, Dirt Bike Magazine did a comparison and the 690 beat the 630 in almost every parameter, other than initial cost. I've ridden it and really like the throttle response and ergonomics. Sorry to break ranks with the faithful, but the truth is the worst insult!
Looked long and hard at the 690 but the deal breaker for me was the close ratio tranny. I know it is a bit lighter and more powerful but my idea of a dual sport is a bike that can plink along at a walking pace and then cruise effortless for long distances on the highway. The 630 shines here!
And what a waste of time the test was, not sure they even rode the bikes from the little information they offered . It would be a waist of time to test these bikes without power up kits installed, same tires , n geared down a touch
So am I reading it right? You switch to a single pipe on the 630 and you basically have 20% more power to handle 2 more lbs. ?
That was one of the reasons I chose the Husky over the KTM. The other was reliability. I talked to several 690 owners. First three I talked to all had experience mechanical issues. Most common one was a pesky FI problem. One guy was on his third warranty claim, a valvetrain failure.
