• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I need to get rid of the marizocchi shocks but that's all I had for now. The Curnutts did not materialize!
Still looking for BUFO bolts for the chain guard, kick lever and shift lever, the Bufo bolts for the rear tank mount and the front tank mounts.
Next pay day I'll order fenders and number plates from vintage husky. Still have to work on the fuel tank and get it painted while Walt Axthelm is still around to sign it, Walt stays in touch with Malcom Smith so I may get lucky and get Malcom Smiths signature on the tank!

I have to find that rubber gasket that seals the carb to the air filter housing.

What do you think of that front tire Steve! It looks pretty good to me!

All in all she is coming together nice but slowly.

Thanks Darin!
I have used as much of the original parts as possible, restored as much as I could but some parts were beyond salvage or were missing altogether.

Soon I will box up the tank, it's going to Dent Dynamics. It looks like they do excellent work. Then I'll decide if I want to paint it or send it to John at Vintage Husky for painting.

Don was able to source seals for the Curnutts so it looks like I'll get those after all.

Very slow going for the next month or so.

looks like all the hard stuff is out of the way. it looks like a motorcycle now. very nice restoration

Thanks!

I must be as insane as you guys, I bought NOS throttle, clutch, and brake cables with the oiler today. Then I found a c/s sprocket, carb to air bell seal, number plates and front number plate mounting bracket. My credit card company is so happy!!

Yup, payday to payday.

I want to repaint the seat pan. At the moment it is primer gray. What is the correct color of the seat pan?

The rear fuel tank mount looks like it takes a shouldered bolt, do you guys know the dimensions of this bolt?

And lastly, the Curnutt shocks are a tad over 12" the original Girlings were 11 7/8"? Will the brake rod be okay with the Curnutt?

Thanks

My seatpan was the same silver as the rest of the chassis stuff.

My rear tank bolt has a plain shank where the washers sit and a small hex with a domed top, i'll measure it up for you but as there's only one on each bike i imagine it will be hard to find. maybe machine one up?

Thank you Looney!

I assumed the pan would be silver but have seen some black.

A photo of the bolt would be great, I have an idea of what it looks like but the machinist would want a photo to reference.

No work on the old girl this week. Maybe next week.

The Curnutts should be fine. That was a common upgrade in those days. I don't think there were any problems that I am aware of.

I got the Curnutt shocks today. The bushings are 6mm id. I think I can't drill them to accept the shock bolts.

The carb is in fair shape but I will need a few parts for that.

Here is the needle :

The fuel inlet :

Slide looks a little rough, I might be able to polish it out.

Thank you Looney,

I think I can find this shouldered bolt or something very close in husky yard tool parts, maybe a blade bolt on a mower?

With the dimensions you have me and the picture I ought to be able to locate one.
