• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1984 500CR - Resto to Race

Looks awesome, great job!
Is that an 84? What kind of forks are they?
Hi Ron

Yes it is a 84... spent a long time looking for one to build..

They are WP 50mm... Here's a closer pic.....Fork leg mods.jpg

The only mods I did (actually had somebody else do it because I didn't have the machinery) was a new spindle machined and a cylindrical sleeve (no spacers required) and also the brake arm bracket needed to be welded to the leg otherwise it was straight bolt on. The onlt thing I am looking to change is that the handle bar mounts are solid and not rubber mounted... yet to find out if this is going to casue some fatique issues...

How does that handle with those forks? I'm looking at doing something similar, mostly to get a disc brake on that fast beast. I actually really like the stock fork action

Nothing fell off or came loose.....

Very happy with the way they performed. I just need more practice!

Super nice bike. The gas tank came out really nice. I'm about to restore a 1984 husky 250cr and my gas tank look like your tank before you painted it. Thanks for the information.

very nice indeed.. can you give some info on the pipe? make and cost?
Did you need to sleeve the front axle to fit into the forks?

Hi SA63,

Pipe came from HVA-Factory.com in the UK. I think they retail for £280.

With regard to the front axle...

1. Use the original and sleeve both ends
2. Make another front axle and sleeve only one end.

I used the original axle nut.

I went for option 2.

Hope that helps.

Hi Stu, lovely looking bike, congratulations!

How do you find the pipe from HVA-factory? Did it require adjustment to fit right, clear the frame, head and tank, line up with the mounts and come out in the right place at the rear and at the correct angle and fit the silencer well? I'm looking for a replacement for my XC500

Kind regards
Lucien.

The Brits are so fortunate to have a Twin Shock series and the amazing Farleigh Castle gathering.... This bike should dominate a ride like that... I adore this bike, amazing and I hope to have a similar build in the not to distant future. Great machine!!!

Hi Lucien,

My pipe fitted quite well for an after market part. There was a little issue with the rubber mount but other than that it cleared everything. I made my rear Silencer so I had no issues with alignment. I'll post some close ups of the rear Silencer in the next week...

Hope that helps.

Hi Demi,

Thanks for the comments. Mine was built to race so not as good a finish as some. I'm sure you can exceed this build. Good luck and don't forget to post your progress.
