    WR = 2st Enduro & CR = 2st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 1999 WR125 in near new condition, need mod advice

Lookin sharp! Have you been able to ride it much? I'm curious how that little 125 hauls 200lbs around. I didn't ride mine when I purchased it. Once I found the loose crank I low balled the guy and he took the offer but I didn't want to ride it for fear of doing damage. It will be like Christmas morning when I finish it up though!

It might be worth a shot to replicate the shrouds and other plastic with fiberglass using the existing stuff as a mold with a protective barrier between. That way you could trash the fiberglass stuff while riding and keep the vintage stuff virgin. www.fiberglasssupply.com or Gorge performance in Portland OR can set you up with supplies.

Nothing wrong with the shock except a rotted away rubber bumper and it's sprung for a garden gnome.

I figured the CR250 stuff would be a lot closer to my needs. I'll be MXing in NY and hare scrambling it in NJ sand.

They changed a lot on the chassis in 2000-2002. I bet you have zerks in the swingarm, no?

That is a sweet bike.

I'd look for used plastic on ebay and save the stock stuff for later.

Have fun with it!

Where are you in NJ?

I may have a front hub for that bike.

Yes, in NJ. Zerks are there too. I've only ridden it up the street on the nasty mix of overly rich oil and it is a little rocket. I haven't raced a 125 since around 97 so it has been a long time. I've got my local dealer checking his attic for body parts just in case and have been watching ebay too. Nobody knows how close that 4t stuff is from DCplastics I guess? I reached out to Paul at Strictly Hodaka to see if he might be interested in building new replica plastics for the 80s/90s Huskys but it is too much $ for the molds. Bummer.

My suspension guru, DS1434 at KTMTALK, Corey of Pro Tune Suspension in Ohio, did up the 2002 CR250 shock for me in GNCC valving for my weight & skill. He noticed the shock is actually 4mm shorter than the 99, and was able to get back 2mm so I'll start out with the forks up about 10mm in the clamps to compensate. He also added a WP spring off a KTM, now that they are joined as sister companies it isn't a crime, right? LOL!

If anyone is looking for a really good suspension guy, Corey is excellent. He does all my family's bikes and we race from tight woods to MX and his settings are awesome. Great prices too, PM if you want his contact info or hit him on facebook.

I've been warned the rebound adjuster is super effective so to adjust it in small increments, and the low speed "clicks" are very soft, so pay close attention to feel them. This is a sweet piece of hardware, when Sachs shocks are tuned in they are among the best IMO.

Thanks again Norman. :o The parts book lists the WR as having the WR tranny. :excuseme:

I bought a set of 2002 WR 125 transmission gears to put in my 2012 off of E-Bay. No way to really know the year but that's what the vendor stated and they are WR gears.

Waiting for my forks and then "ready to race"!

If you want to change the plastic to '00-'04, you'll need tank, radiators, seat and subframe to make it work. Rear axle changed in '01, front axle changed in '02. You can use same rear wheels after '00, up to '08 with newer spacers and fronts with newer size bearings, as hubs are the same. Swap springs front and rear for your weight, stock CR250 rates might still be too soft.

Are you sure about the radiators? I was told just the tank, seat and sub frame would do the trick.
