  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TC 250 convert to enduro?

TADH!! I know when it is running is the only time.. i hard wired 12v bulbs staight to it. .had a volt meter on it and it doesn't show a singe voltage spike and would not light a bulb.. revved the engine up and down and nothin changed. so i figured it was a generic harness used on other bikes and the motocrosser won't have the lighting coil on the ignition..

Tadgh, you will remember from your previous Husky that the engines and suspension take at least 500 miles to bed down. I was wondering if a flywheel weight might help with low down traction. I also agree a recluse would be brilliant on your bike in the woods.
Mate she looks a rear pearler, I know you will have a blast with her.

you know i was thinking about the flywheel weight, not for traction but i noticed on the steeper down hills that the engine had much less engine braking than the te250. First i thought it was the tick over was high but possibly either first gear is much taller than the te250 or the flywheel is much lighter.
going to have another much quicker run on it tomorrow, see what i decide to do.

My son put the 51 rear sprocket on his today and tested it out around the house. He could putt around witout any throttle and without stalling. I wouldn't have thought I more tooth in the rear would have made that big of a difference; but it does. He will test it out on our MX track tomorrow.

i am surprised one tooth would make a difference but i am going to experiment on it for sure

well i am not electrically minded at all but i had the front and rear hooked up and running no problem. as far as i know the output is ac not dc if that might be making a difference. like i said i am bad with electrics but it was definitely working:thumbsup:

Im not sure what the gear ratios are for the TC,but the TEs first gear is way too tall for tight woods, even with the 52T rear it will not creep around and flames out,its not the FI problem, the gear is sooo tall it just cannot idle down that low,Im going to try a 54T,but worried about the lower chain guide and bashing rocks with the sprocket

second ride

took the bike for second more serious spin today. so in answer to some of my own questions about the bike and what i think it needs to run it in enduros.
firstly the stock exhaust is way too loud. i expected that but today it was very noticeable, especially the overrun on deceleration into corners. lots of mx style lean banging and popping. new quiet exhaust required for sure or maybe a decibel killer? any suggestions?

the bike is a fantastic hill climber with the 19 inch mx tyre but i need to put the 18 inch on for FIM tyres. i expect it to be much better on the slower more technical climbs with the 18 inch enduro tyre.

the bike needs one tooth more on the front i think as it runs out of revs on top very fast on the fire roads, or maybe a couple less on the back. in the woods except for very steep descents the gearing is good. in medium fast woods it feels perfect!

the clutch has freed up a little and checking the basket i cannot remove any springs as it has 5 not 6 as before.

suspension still feels hard but very planted and maybe as stock when it breaks in a little it will be excellent i think.

so in short to get it perfect for me, i need a slight adjustment to the gearing, 18 inch wheel and a quiet exhaust

:notworthy:

one edit to say that the front brake is very grabby at low speed but i hope this is just the pads bedding in with the disc and it will smoothen up with use

DB killer makes a huge difference. This is an awesome chart Danbartol made a while back. Thanks again DAN!

db killer looks the winner i wonder does it fit into the mx exhaust ? i try it and hopefully its not a huge power killer

Good stuff, tadgh.

Did you just use one wire for the power and a ground to the frame, or both wires like an AC loop?

I was considering doing a light set up, but I'd want to covert it to DC and have a battery, so I could plate it.

The front brake is very strong. It hasn't gave me any problems yet, but it flat huals the bike down from speed.

I'd like more low end so I can pull some taller gears. I'd like to go 13/47.

I know what you are saying about the fork, it's sort of good, yet very stiff. I really don't have time to develop it out, so i may just throw my SHOWA front end on it for now. It's pretty nice already.

I have a spare set of wheels with an 18" rear that I'll probable use. They don't have the pretty black rims.:(

The IMS tank is very nice. Hold more fuel and it lighter than stock. What more could you ask for?

So far, so good. I really loved my WR and this is nothing like it. It feels super light and nimble, but that also seems to make it easier to upset when encountering trail trash.

It's going to take some adjustment time.

It does make you feel like a hero, because you're pinned and screaming most of the time.

Am I really going faster, or just making a lot of noise? :excuseme:

i have converted 2 bikes to dc using the baja designs regulator/rectifier... around $40. when you order, ask for the dc conversion kit... it's no extra charge. it includes heat shrink tubing, wiring, etc. and a very excellent set of step-by-step instructions with good photos. in both cases the systems have been totally reliable, and i'm running a trail tech x2 hid headlight.

for a battery i recommend the turn-tech 2.5 amp hour. i started with a 5.0 ah for the '10 te250. this was recommended because of the efi. the 5.0 fired the te so fast i decided to take a risk and try the 2.5, and haven't had any issues with the smaller, 1 lb lighter unit. i put the 5.0 in my 450. joe turner is very knowledgeable, great to work with, and ships promptly.

i only received the regulator the other day so its not on the bike yet but its just one wire for power and one to the frame. it looks neat enough and plenty of space under the tank to hide it out of the way.

the front brake is great its just at slow speeds i find it a bit grabby..very on/off like it has a huge initial bite. but i am getting more used to it now.

as for the forks they have bedded in a touch, and as stock (excluding one ohlins tm i had) they feel spot on in the woods. i am about 90kg for the record.

i havent decided what to do with the exhaust yet, it needs to be quieter but i havent examined the options in detail yet . perhaps the db killer or maybe a q4 pipe.

funny enough about the petrol tank, i have done two enduro track loops on the longest loop i generally race and the fuel enconomy was very good. it should last 2 hours on a H and H no problem so i will stay away from the larger tank for now. i expected the tank to be very empty but it wasnt the case. the carb has the update needle/jets in from the start

Thanks tadgh.

I know what you're saying about the tank. I almost blew it off, but it was there and very nice, so I did it. Now I don't have to wonder if I'll make it.

BTW; Your bike looks great. Looks like a VERY serious enduro racer.

Thinking about doing the same to race enduros in Australia, seems alot of the yamaha guys here are using yz's now days, my te450 is perfect for the weekend ride and..

I can get a 10/11' tc250 for about 3k here, I know its an old thread but any more news on setups.

I have a TC 250 2010 for enduro, 18 inch, lights... looks a TE!

Yeah sweet man. What have u done to the suspension, gearing etc...

Hows the reliability in race conditions to.

I've got 2 010 TC250s ... Both sitting with over 250 hrs.... Lots of easier, lower RPM trail riding (<=5k?) along with the engine sitting 8-10K when I need some meat ... I try hard to stay off the rev-limiter (12K?)and shift the bike as needed... I like my bikes.

I'm not sure what your enduro riding will be but these bikes are designed motocross (MX) racers. Pretty much a standard 5-speed Close Ratios tranny ... ~Perfect for MX racing. ~Perfect for my trail\road\ST\hiway\track riding here.

Many might say 1st gear is too tall and 5th is too short. This is what you might wanna consider. (In the coming yrs, a TXC 6speed gear set is what I hope to purchase for at least 1 of these TCs)

My 19"rear tires seem to wanna break off the bead also when I have flats with them (I want an 18" excel rim and spokes) and I carry a flashlight now in my backpack for the ride home in the dark that seems to be happening too often.

Good luck with your racing\riding.

I guess Husky must have used my exact size for these bikes as the one that has a stock suspension turns well for me. I can pick a line in a corner, and mid turn, change the line. It rails, it squares, it jumps ... I have no complaints on the bikes performance but I am a Husqvarna rider from way back.

Yeah it will just be a race bike. Got a te450, but its just too hard to hammer around a grass track, rocky sandy hill climbs, steep long downhills & real tight single trail for 2.5 hrs. Kit it with the bash plates, head light, drop a tooth.

Just need something light & nimble, bit of power, and wont try to kill me when im low on calories
