  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2012 WR300 opinions? Converting from TE510 maybe...

yeah, mines no yz250 on the power delivery. its not the most mellow power but if you have any kind of throttle control youll be fine.

1st gear is fine for most hills ive found and its got plenty of motor for riding a gear high. the top speed sucks with stock gearing but im sticking with stock because i like how it does on hills and im willing to sacrifice a bit of top end speed for and better geared bike in the tight which is mostly what i ride.

the cable clutch is ok and i can lice with it. the only thing i dont like about it is i have had it fade on me before.

just buy one and you wont look back. i bet youll get rid of your 510 after playing with the 300 for a bit. or get the 310, that was my second choice. im not very comfortable on a 4 stroke (cannt keep bigger bores fired in corners) is my only problem with it and why i didnt get one. i think the 310 would be a cool bike non the less.

Well, i have made up my mind. WR300 here i come - however, the local dealer cannot get any in as they have all sold out. Sooooo im going to have to wait 2 months for the 2013 model to come out. Buuuut in the meantime i might be picking up a XC125 :) so that way i can still ride, my big bike stays nice and clean for selling, while i wait :)

reading through the post and my thoughts were 'don't think, just do', if it ain't working with the 4 stroke go with the 2 banger. Seems like you have made your choice, keep us informed of the difference.

Thing is I love my 510. Just want a change. Took the 125 for a lash on the weekend and my gosh - surprising to say the least! Absolutely LOVED the 125! Was a tonne of fun, light, nimble, etc.....

Have fully cleaned the 125, done gearbox oil, flushed tank, new chain, fork savers, checked and tightened everything, cleaned air filter and new fresh fuel. Excellent :)

Sounds like a good mod then 1987.

On another 2 stroke note, pulled the 125 down to inspect the piston/rings/bore. All looks really good inside, so going to be replacing it with a wossner piston, new rings etc and slapping it back together. Something to do during the week anyway :)

Not that i want to spend any money on the 125, (maybe the 300 though) but how cool do these old school mufflers look!

Well, practicing wheelies on the 125 = possible fractured tailbone lol.... So off the bikes for a couple of weeks or months possibly.....

But, trying to sell my 510 and the 125 to pay for the WR300 as soon as it gets into the local dealer. 3 weeks away apparently....

i too am contemplating on going from a te510 to a wr300. i'm not one to just "do it" without doing all my homework first about the bike and i doubt i'll even buy one without riding one first.
so who's got a wr300 in the north jersey area for me to take for a spin?
my other hesitation is getting a registration for the wr.

How much u looking for the 125, would like one to put next to my 300.

Got 4500 ono on it mate. Approx 15 hrs use, new chain, new Wossner forged piston, ring, little end bearing, circlips, gearbox serviced, modified powervalve spring, new coolant. Good condition, ready to go - starts first kick.

I love the fact that the 125 is just soo light. I know the 300's are only slightly heavier, plus the weight is located very low on the frame. The 510 has alot of weight up high.

I think the book specs can be deceiving. They call the 510 weight in the book up as being 111kg and also Paul Feeny's tech guru reckons that weight is all fluids MINUS fuel. I would have to weigh mine to see how it compares to the book. 315lb is 142 kilos. An extra 31kg is alot.

i think that is why is feels like it weights so much. wait, mine weights 315lbs. thats why it feels like it weights so much....because it does!

315lbs??????? That's rediculous! I think my 1986 Honda XR600 weighed about that much.

Do the six speed swap, makes it a completely different bike and a lot more fun to ride.

As far as registration, Euro bikes MSOs don't say "Offroad Use Only" like the Japanese bikes do. I had no problem getting a tag for mine in VA.....inspection sticker is another matter though.

You're welcome to come ride mine.

i appreciate the offer, maybe someone more local will step up to the plate.
as far as registration, here in jersey they are sticklers with dmv stuff so its a crap shoot if it will go through or not.
