• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 FE 511 Project Pics

Stock suspension, it held up in the slow stuff but definitely needs spring upgrade and revalve, however the suspension surprisingly worked okay. I could tell that the way the valving was setup it was setup to have a progressive feel. I did not ever feel it blowing through the stroke and bottoming. Rather compressing and becoming stiff at max compression, rebound was great, kept the wheels on the ground and no pogoing. Stock setting 10 compression 10 rebound, I didn't change anything. I look forward to how the suspension will feel and the bike react with new springs and a revalve.

If you have upgraded to LED flashers:

Another added item from Sicass is a flasher module (item# 22-300 $23.98) , again it plugs right into the stock flasher plug. You can find this behind the headlight. Stops the flasher from blinking super fast.

I also added a stainless steal oil filter filter from PC Racing part PC167 $19.99 got it at powersport superstore.com.

See Tinkens writeup about oil filters:

Looks like fun and we got our bikes at the same place :)

I keep joking it was so cheap I should get another one!

Looks like fun :)

Be sure to grease the swinger/shock bearings, when I pulled mine apart yesterday with 570 miles one of the bearings was quite dry and not in good shape. The others could use some lube.

So there's an FMF pipe available for the 14 TE511? I called FMF and they said they don't have one yet. That was yesterday. What pipe did you use, and where did you get it, WLDracing? I'd like to get this sorted as soon as possible so I can get some performance out of this thing.

Awesome stuff. I've already ordered the ignition switch you mentioned above. And now I have a lot more cool stuff to add to my list. Thanks for posting all this great information and location for the parts. I have the identical bike to yours, got mine from Bert's as well. Once I get things done, I'll have to post my mods as well, which are very similar to yours. Again, great stuff here, really helps me a lot. Thanks again.

WLDracing, can you tell us where you purchased the Voyager? And is it specifically for the Husky, or is there a universal application? Thank you.

13 and 14 bikes should be the same for fmf pipe.....

I would think so, too. But the FMF rep said "no." Which doesn't make any sense to me, as I see these pipes on new machines. So people are obviously ignoring FMF and putting the mufflers on anyway. Can anyone tell me exactly what they did, where they ordered theirs from, and how much it cost roughly? Just trying to sort this out. Thanks.

They're idiots.
2011-2014 are the same. And they have pipes for the austrian bikes too.

Very good. Now that I know, I'm empowered. Also been studying the article you posted about oil. So much voodoo out there. I've always been of the mind to make my own decisions based on a certain amount of research, not too much, not too little. Thanks for the excellent information.

Check with the sponsors on here first Ziptyracing, bills, etc...I bought mine from Rocky Mountain mc before I was a CH member. Paid about $350 ish, they're made for our bikes and both mine fit great. With all the help the members and sponsors provide here I'm a firm believer in supporting them.

I would be surprised if ANYONE in FMF actually knows what a Husqvarna actually is - let alone a TE. I was asking some simple questions about the potential for a Q for the TE (since they make a setup for the TC) and I was informed they "are as different as apples and cucumbers" and there is no way they would ever get a Q to fit a TE...I gave up there.

After about half a dozen calls and -gasp- half a dozen different answers (oh they dont do email FYI) I wound up with the PowerCore 4 with the quietest insert available (part no 040671). This is a 1.125" opening (looks sort of puny) and it REALLY quiets the bike back down. Not OEM quiet, but it is very good. It sounds like the KTM RFS out of the crate - in fact as soon as I fired it up, it is the first thing that popped in my mind.

Yeah, thanks for mentioning that.... I stripped down the bike from wheels to swing arm and all pivot points and greased them. However I was surprised how well they where greased.

Thanks Tom ...Lots of cool stuff for the our bikes and believe me when you get the performance stuff dialed in your bike will run like a champ

Hey Tom,

The Voyager is made specifically for the Husky application part # 56-4955, you will have to purchase the protector separately. Just call Trail Tech, they are really great and helpful in the application for our bikes.

Thanks guys for the pipe info. I just ordered one. Going to try it without doing any mapping, but if needed, I can always put the stock can back on until I get a JD PowerSurge device. I don't want to go the Power Commander route, as I don't have that kind of cash laying about. I hear the JD unit works great. So the pipe is actually an FMF for a 2012. If it doesn't fit, I'll just send it back. But I have a strong feeling it's going to work just fine.

The voyager looks like a nice unit. I'm not sure I'd use the GPS, however, so maybe something less expensive that gives more information. I'll lose the fuel level info, but it's so tiny on the OEM unit that I didn't even see it, and ran out. So a lot of good that did, huh.
