  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449/511 G450 Torque Limiter replacement

Yes, these engine parts were manufactured overseas, then fully assembled by BMW. Husqvarna add on parts manufactured in Italy.

Hi Tinken, could you explain where the hose from the breather returns to if not the drain plug. I'm struggling to follow.

That's a mod I do to the inside of 449 engines. It requires a complete disassembly and machining which is well beyond the scope of most owners.

"i bought it from Dangermousse.. "

I have done an online search and can't seem to find them. Is there any other place I can get the new and improved unit?

So what is so funny? All I looking for is the updated torgue limiter as a replacement part for my 2013 TC 449. He said that is where he purchased one, thus the question.

Dangermouse449 is a member here and it was a stock TL. No such thing as a "upgraded torque limiter", at least not yet....

There is no Improved version available at all.... Sorry to say.

I bought a stock TL and spend some time to get the Torque up to 300NM.

All you can do to get a bit more out of it , is to buy a second shim from BMW as described in my presentation.

You can also take it apart and roughen the smooth surfaces of the steels discs.

There is absolute no magic to this Limiter... and it withstand Temperatures of some Blow by Gasses. The Lube holes in the Tl not big enough to channel all the heat through. If it would happen any ways. ..
How many miles did you get out of your Torque limiter before replacing. ??

It only has about 15 hours on it and I have just noticed the first signs of slippage. The only one I can find is stated to be for the BMW unit with either an "A" or a "B" version. Will this fit the TC449. Your post seemed to indicate that it had a higher torque limit than normal, so I assumed it is an improved version.
I do have the Zip-Ty vent set up and am running 1250cc of oil. I am an older rider and I am not too hard on my equipment, thus this early of a failure is not common for me.
I am also interested in finding the available different clutch shims I have read about.
Any help would be useful.
Thank you!

Sad to hear it failed even with the recirc kit and more oil. How long did it run without all that?

interesting to hear that the Recirculation Kit didn't really prevent the TL Failure .....
you can order either the whole TL from BMW or Husky. Or Buy the individual parts from BMW as you can see here on the slide.
I suggest either way , still order one Extra Shim "Number 3 " to put more pressure on the Belleville Washer or also known as DISC SPRING .
Not all of us are aware of all the technical meanings ! Spring washer will do....

But please find a Description on WIKIPEDIA.

My aim is to get some info out here and not create more Mysteries ..

I will post Pictures as many as i can ...

Another thing you can do to get more Nm reading would be to either find someone with a small Sandblaster to roughen the disc surface .
I have used 40grid paper and a small grinder and went over the disc just slightly without applying much pressure to grinder.

The two discs on the left after grinding , the right one is as it was removed from TL.

Install two instead of one SHIM between Bearing and Belleville washer... just as you see on Picture ...
