  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 / 511 recap and info

Got my '13 TE511 this spring - (looks like I paid too much - damn Canada) - I'm an average rider (I guess?), cannot read seat threads with my ass, but I honestly think this bike has made me look like I'm better than I am:)
I can make it up stuff and not blink an eye, I can ride way faster through the trees (I've timed my self), I can save it from tipping over way easier... the list goes on.
Unconventional designs usually upset the Grandpa Simpsons & Mr Burnses, "Well that's a helluva thing", but I really think this bike is a gem.
I'm really on the fence about weather the new Husky company will do away with the things like CTS, above swingarm linkage, low center of mass, etc, in one way it's a shame but in another I will continue to have an advantage:)

I got my 2011 449 in december of 2011. since then I have ridden the desert 100 and Virginia city grand prix twice. While working in Idaho I traveled every dirt road and trail I could find. Bike never let me down. For those that say you can't do tight woods check out my video.

Gearing is still stock. I did add the JD tuner and de-catted the pipe. thats it.
If you can get a deal buy two, just because:lol:

Well I just bought me a 2013 Te449 - drove all the way to Illinois to get it from Texas. I have not broken the bike in as of yet; but it seems like a balless wonder? I am coming from a Yamaha Wr250x and it seems as though it has more guts than this bike. I am hoping one of you guys can give me some advice and encouragement because this bike is gorgeous and I love the way it handles and feels (minus the lack of power of course). When I watch videos on the bike it seems like it lofts the wheel with ease; and mine feels very weak. Granted I have not really opened the throttle up; but putting along it seems feeble and without any nuts. I hope I didn't make a mistake buying this? No way a 250 should feel more torquey than a 449? She looks like a beast but is currently a kitten without claws. IMG_0882.JPG

Very EZ to get huge balls on it. Mine is very fast. No issue pulling away from my KTM 450 riding buddies. 45mph wheelies etc. Muffler needs uncorked and EFI needs richened up, many ways to do both. GREAT bikes. Ride it some and get her broke in a little then uncork her and hold on.

Have you plugged in the power up plug under the seat? First and free way to more power and safer running. Some say to leave it out while breaking it in but I'm not sure how it running so lean it is hot and dangerous is a good thing at any point.

Yes, beautiful!!!

I am glad to hear it is EZ to gets some nuts added to this bike; I was very worried. 45mph wheelies sounds like what I expected from the looks of her. I have not "plugged in the power up plug" under the seat. In fact, I don't even know what that is. I will put some miles on it today without any changes and change the oil and search for the "power up plug".

Also, I did not receive any "plug" from the dealer when I bought the bike. Is this something I can buy to plug into my 2013 Te449?

You can order it from Husqvarna. Bill's or Hall's might have it in stock. It voids your warranty, so wait 30 days before installing.

Maybe it is already installed as the thing is almost unrideable without it IMHO. Scary lean and likes to stall / toss you over the bars.

Factory power plug - runs OK
Factory power plug and decatted muffler - better
power plug and real muffler - good
JD and muffler - now were making some power
PC5 and muffler - Tons of options, maps and big power

they should have given it to you. I will try to dig up a pic but it is a little loop of wire (might be all it is so you could make one) that plugs in right under the seat.

And here I was thinking a flame out was flames shooting out of the rear of the exhaust :( lol, mine has never stalled so far

I would let the rings seat in before I changed oil but that's just me. Congratulations on the bike.

The purpose of the early oil and filter change is two fold

1-to flush manufacturing residue out of the engine; the sooner the better
2-to be running known oil of your choice in the engine; also the sooner the better

My 449 and 511 were the cleanest first oil changes I have ever seen, but even they had some metallic, silvery residue come out on that first change. Subsequent changes are always less metallic looking than the first one, which is all the evidence I need that an early oil change is a good idea.

Totally agree.

Someone should make a 'sticky' thread with the mods for the 499/511 as there seem to be THAT many asking the same question!!!

Cheapest and stills runs like a scalded dog. Power up plug, FMF quietcore 4, and open exhaust map....
No stalling, no popping on decel, smooth throttle response, all the wheelies you want with just the throttle,
No cluch popping.

I apologize for all the newbie questions and redundancy. Does anyone know a good place to get the FMF power core and dyno power commander V ? I just want to get the right stuff. Also, just in case there is another idiot like myself out there that zip ties there throttle cables out of the way - dont do it it makes the throttle accelerate rapidly when turning right lol... Good thing she doesn't have any balls yet lol ...

ha ha yeah we all learn that the hard way. OK to zipty them near the throttle body or carb but not up by the bars. Need range of motion as you discovered. He the husky already saved your ass once. :D
