• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'82-'83 175 pistons...long story.

Got the 175 cylinder back from PowerSeal. Decided to have them replate the iron liner to fit my good/used piston. Looks fantastic. It's a little more expensive this way, but worth it due to how rare these pistons are.

I stopped working on the project because no one was interested in it other than me.

Hello Kartwheel168,
I have been watching this thread for quit some time now, have you still got this project or have you moved it on? I am in the process of building a '83 175 Husky, as I haven't been able to buy one to restore, I have spent the last 12 months sourcing all the parts that I need, all except the pistons that is, now I can see you have done a lot of research on piston availability, did you come up with a solution for sourcing a piston or would it be easier to just get some made. I won't go on here, as you may no longer have any interest in this project, but if you do please reply and maybe you can share some of you information on this project.
Thanks & Regards Brian.

Jef Bens in Belgium had some 175 pistons (some good reproductions I think).

Hello Michel, Thanks for the feed back, I will get onto it and see how I go, I will let you know. Thanks & Regards Brian.

Hello Michel, Just wanted to let you know, I purchased the 175 pistons from Jef Bens and they arrived last Friday, 2 x 1st o/s & 2 x 2nd o/s, he hasn't got any standard at the moment, he will be ordering the next batch in '24. Michel do you where I could obtain a standard piston be it new or good second hand(usable) I can get a second hand piston coated with Dry Film Lubricant and have barrel bored to suit, don't want to waste a bore in the barrel. Thanks Michel for your help. Regards Brian.

Hi, I have an XC 175 of 1983, I would have some information about carburation.
I have Mikuni 34 and Mikuni 36. Someone is using it? 34 or 36 or others? Can you give me the carburation settings? (maximum, minimum jet, etc.?)
Thanks

I don't have numbers yet, and mine is an 82 with the HP 175 kit. It's newly completed and will be on its maiden voyage the weekend of 3/1. I think I put a 36mm Mikuni on it. I can certainly post the numbers that I use for this one, but it may or may not be correct for the 83 put you can try it.

Thanks, I think your setting could be useful, 82 and 83 seem similar, may be almost the same. Thanks!

Here's where I am so far. I'll do more testing 3/14-17.
1982 175XC (HP kit)
Mikuni VM36-4
Main 490
Q5 needle jet
6DH3-3 needle
2.5 slide
60 pilot

Jetting update: The Q5 needle jet is too lean. I raised the needle to -4 but didn't like the timing of the fuel curve. Going to need at least an R0 to R4 needle jet so I can keep the clip in -3, which is where I like the 6DH3 needle best.

Once that happens, I may be able to lean the pilot a touch. Keeping it safely fat for now.

Thanks a LOT!!

Hello Picklito & Getoverload, I have been reading your posts with great interest, as I am building an '83 175 Husky myself here in Australia, these bikes are difficult to find here, so over the last 18 months I have been buying everything that I need on eBay, I have most of the parts I need now but having trouble finding a standard piston kit, so my question to you guys is, do you know where I can get a standard piston kit(64.75, 16 11 266 - 01). I have been able to get 1st & 2nd o/size from Jef Benz but he has sold out of standard and tells me he is not getting anymore as he has to get quantities of twenty for an order. I am not going to start this project until I have all the parts that I need. Hoping you fella's can help me out. Thanks Brian.

Hi Brian, did you find the standard piston? If you do not find, I think the Jeff Bens oversize can be used... you just can make the cylinder bore a bit larger (the exact size for the piston, obviously) by a good workshop. ??

Thanks Picklito, I'll give them a try.

Here's where I'm jetted on the 82 175 kit bike. This works VERY well.
