• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'86 WR400 rebuild

DC Plastics has my left side panel right now and as of 4 weeks ago were "finishing it up now" and assured me they've be able to make '86 WR lefties in 1-2 weeks. I still haven't gotten my original back, or the duplicate they're making me, so can't say for sure when they'll be ready and/or what the quality will be (some of their parts are near-ish OE quality, others, well, not as much), but you could e-mail them and ask them to make one for you as well. Otherwise, HVA factory has one or two NOS (at a bit of a steep price). I'm not aware of anyone doing Acerbis-quality new ones last time I checked.

Thanks Eric! I'll check with DC. I'm not interested in spending a lot more money. Other fish to fry.

Wheels on, pipe and silencer on and repacked but not in this pic, front and rear fenders too. I'll take a picture of the modded side panel.

Please note I artfully placed flotsam and jetsam in the background to increase the visual impact of Isolde, the beautiful Swede

Makin' me think I should be pulling apart my '86 for a refresh....
Man, I wish my garage was as clean as yours looks in this picture

Flotsam and Jetsam was a killer METAL band from the late 80"s / early 90's. Metallica ended up with their bassist Jason Newstead after Cliff Burton died in 1986. good luck with you build it looks awesome.

Inga, Isolde, they're always gorgeous
I got the plastic mounted and the left side panel modified to fit.

Note the high tech equipment needed for this modification. Heat gun and strap until cool.

Still need to install the headlight shell. The exhaust pipe will be fixed at a later time. I need to make a air setup for exhaust pipes.

As can be seen there is no rt side panel. The one I have can be modified to fit. What is the black airbox section from?
here's the side panel I have. What is this from?

the black section is wrong, its a cut down 87-88 panel. the white one should be on the bike. it may be a cr unit like the other side. 87-88 bikes have black panels and airbox while the 85-86 have all white.

obd beat me to it...
nice bike pic by the way! looking sharp!

Yup, black looks like a cut down newer piece. The white side panel has no clip and nut to attach the filter cover. It doesn't fit the airbox either.
Oldbike, my setup is identical to yours including the footpegs and chain slider. I have the chain guard instead of a top roller.

I tried to put my chainguard on once. Fit like crap, I just wear mx boots when I ride. I like the top roller idea though, might do some good against a run-away chain.

the top roller works alot when the bike is ridden aggresively. when a new one is put on im surprised theres a decent amount of wear mark where its been turning. its not needed, but nice to have i guess. you guys are talking about the chainguard but i also never run the countershaft cover...they just pack with mud. wear your boots!

I believe the CR's from that era had a top roller. Since i have the longer travel CR suspesion i thought i'd add the top roller.

Hmmm- We'll see about that. I'm not used to running a guard but it came with the bike so...
The roller makes more sense but is dirtier. Oldbike, do you have brown stains on the inside of your right leg?
