• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'86 WR400 rebuild

the top roller works alot when the bike is ridden aggresively. when a new one is put on im surprised theres a decent amount of wear mark where its been turning. its not needed, but nice to have i guess. you guys are talking about the chainguard but i also never run the countershaft cover...they just pack with mud. wear your boots!
The countershaft cover on my WRX is only half there (missing the back half and the peg for that portion is also broken off of the crankcase). It's the lowest priority fix on the bike... Can't see swapping the right crankcase side (that's otherwise fine) for an ouput sprocket cover. Maybe someday....

Hmmm- We'll see about that. I'm not used to running a guard but it came with the bike so...
The roller makes more sense but is dirtier. Oldbike, do you have brown stains on the inside of your right leg?

If the brown isn't getting past your knee, you're riding it wrong

the sprocket cover sucks anyway for something rode in the mud. just leave it off unless you want it on there.

Thanks Mike! I have a countershaft sprocket but I've never run on on any bike- just a case saver.
It's raining today but I hope to run it around soon.
To finish the bike I need a headlight to fit the stock shell and a tail light. The tail light looks like a British light with a back rubber mount.
Does anyone have a good picture of one? Preston Petty has the headlight but no mounting ring. Suggestions?

Here's the next project. Don't think I have to do much to this. Picking it up on the way down to York Friday.
Now I can be legal in a couple of AHRMA classes.

Another note- I tried a foam polishing wheel on the plastic. I clamped a grinder in my vise with the wheel and it worked pretty good. The higher speed takes the old discolored plastic off and will polish melt the plastic at the same time. The foam tends to grab the piece so you have to hold on!
Also want suggestions on a better alternative to Photobucket for uploading pictures. When I run the program it has too many ads and software running and slows everything down.

Also looking for a kickstand :)
Isn't everyone....
HVA Factory makes the bracket, as well as stand. Husqvarna-parts sells a bracket (looks an awful lot like what HVA Factory makes). I watched ebay for over a year to see a decent used side stand come up for my '85. Depending on your target price, you may be shopping for a bit.

Thanks Eric. I have one that looks like that on my Triumph- I can change it out. Is your black backing plate larger than the one in the photo?

Looks like a Triumph tail light with an extra black rubber spacer.
Thanks Eric!
I'll figure out how to make something similar
