They delay production of the 1600 Thunderbird cruiser for almost four years - Thats how long they were talking about it in dealer meetings.. You don't know how many people walked out of our local Triumph dealership because there was nothing between the 900cc America and 2200cc Rocket III (of which I am a proud owner of a Turbocharged version). So when do the Aholes introduce it - when the world economy tanks and the US cruiser market drops 48 percent. The bike is the toast of the town with the MC rags, but the market has dried in half**************************************** The Euro mfg'ers dance to their own drummer and I can point to many times where their decisions really cost them...
Mike...
Speaking of understanding the markets, there's a great little book out there somewhere by a French guy on how he helps market products like the Jeep. He helped keep the Jeep brand alive by advising the company that Americans likened the Jeep to a horse and so they put in round headlights (like a horse) and the brand took off again. In Europe this was not the connection. They likened Jeep to freedom and so the campaign hooked into the liberation of Europe and the part that Jeeps played.
