  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I pulled the valve cover on my '10 TC 250 last night just to see what was underneath http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6324.

This afternoon I put everything back together (or so I thought) and kicked it ONCE to start it up. After about 25 seconds of the motor running flawlessly, I notice a puddle of warm oil developing under the bike before my very eyes!

I immediately shut the bike down and start investigating and find this lying on the jackstand:

I immediately disassemble down to the valve train and start looking around to find the place that the "extra part" goes....

When I took the valve cover off the first time, it was NOT obvious that the gasket was part of the process. Thank God it fell on the jackstand in an obviously visible location.

Now you know!

Yep.

I bet you took the cover off and the seal was on the cover, then set the cover on the stand and it fell off. Sound about right?

That had to be what happened. :banghead:

Might not hurt to take a bit of high temp RTV silicone and glue that gasket to the valve cover..........??

:eek::eek:

Wow! That was close !

Thanx for posting, wouldn't want to think of the consequences if you missed it.

If you do go that route make sure it is applied paper thin. Any excess is going to end up down by the screen, most likely. Those type of machined mating surfaces normally call for an anaerobic sealant. Those sealants seal with the abscense of air and dissolve in the oil.

My issue is I had to remove the valve cover and remove this seal just to get the plug out. I've tried so many sockets and can't get down past that seal.

Also, did you cut off that clip that attaches the breather tube to the valve cover?

I left it attached and just let the cover dangle.
