  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best Husky for trail riding?

I get the new bike itch, and at these prices I don't see the harm as long as you plan on enjoying the bike. I have my 1999 and have about $2100 in it to buy and set it up. The worries of the older bikes is parts, weird stuff you may have to get creative with. Heck, the 99 isn't even that old and there are parts you can't get anymore.

The other side is that if I bought a new one, I'd need to have the same suspension valving and springs added in, hand guards, tall seat, etc. All the stuff I've done already on my 1999.

So that dealer is NJ has WR250, WR125, TXC 250, TXC 310

So far a lot of replies for the WR125....

Will I really have to keep this revved high in the woods?

Thanks for reply. Leaning towards to WR125. How much $ and how hard to convert to a 144 or 166?

Also...with the KTM buy out....how will the WR125 be for parts 10-20 years from now?

That bike should come with the 144 cylinder and piston so it is a free engine upgrade. A 125/144 is different than a 200, a 300 or a 500. Each has strengths and weaknesses. If you are new, better to start on a smaller bike and learn to keep speed up in turns. The bigger bikes let you cheat yourself, I know I got lazy on them.

Parts shouldn't be as hard to get as our 1999 bikes. That era is just void of any support.

Go to Roost power sports http://www.roostpowersports.com/index.htm they have a 2013 cr125/144 that should be less than 4200 $ OTD
I saw this bike last Saturday. They come with a 144 kit new. If asked they will put it on for short money.

The cr has a smaller tank and different ignition and no light coil and some say its much faster. It also had a different set of clickers on the forks. These guys are great and have turned themselves insideout to help me out as of late.

If i had the money, a WR144 would be in my garage next to the WR300 and TE449.

Sell the 300. I had a WR250 and WR360 and sold them both as the 165 always got the nod to ride while the other beasts sat. I am as fast or faster on my 165 and the fun factor is meny level higher. Just a thought.

Beleive me, Ive thought about it. Ive got too much invested in the 300 plus I want to race it this year. Maybe next year...

I was really liking my WR250 and did the six speed mod, Riders Edge base valves/stacks, powder coated frame, Decal Works, etc (got carried away) and liked it a bunch more.:)

Then last year (a year later) I got a used 09 WR125 and took my time going through it and put the 165 Kit in. That bike turned out to be the most fun dirt bike ever (sounds dorky) and all the good things that are said about the 165 are true. If the Lectron carb is added, it only gets better.
My thought was to use the 6 speed 250 for desert riding and the WB special for tight woods, but it turned out to be not so simple..:
Getting back to the WR 250, I still love that bike but the 165 is the really hot, slim little red head that you can't get enough of.
The good wife and the trophy? Who cares? :p

Too bad you need really long legs to ride a Husky 2 stroke. Their 2 strokes are their tallest bikes and unnecessarily so, there's a HUGE gap of space above the cylinder head. And the height isn't for ground clearance. They bumped the seat height an inch a couple years back or so, but the ground clearance didn't change. They just limited their customer base a little more.

All modern full sized bikes have about the same seat height. I jumped off a KTM 350 onto my bike, feels about the same height wise.

Husky 125 - 38.4
KTM 125/150 - 39
YZ125 - 39.3

Pretty much so. I love my WR300 and my TE450, but I am often seen on older KDXs because they are pretty compact and sometimes I just want to be able to get my feet on the ground, or take an easy swing at the kickstarter. Little bikes always get the nod for the tightest, most technical trails or any time that I will be doing exploration and trail breaking and clearing.:o

love the tall bikes easier to stand up from sitting. i know for a fact mine has more GC than an asian too my toes never hardly drag in stuff, other stuff? riiip- right off the pegs. im only this big (3-1/2 moto boots tall) and the pussycat 300 aint too tall fer meee! :oldman:

just park near a rock and left leg kick it. braaap! :p

All I can say is if you want a Husky 2T you better find one and buy it. There will be no more Italian Husky 2t's. Once I got the suspension done on my 06 WR250 that bike was awesome, of course it had the 6 speed, auto clutch, left hand rear brake and ran wonderful. My nephew still has that bike. Still like my 165 better. Won't run 85-90 mph but I don't mind being last to the next trail because I am going to have way more fun once I get there.

2013 TE310 - 37.4

2007 KTM 525exc - 36.4
2003 Husky TE610e - 35.6

Most women are shorter than men. So it's even more difficult for them to get into off road riding than it is for me, a 5'11" tall man with a 29" inseam.

I know that there are people with longer legs. Or that are 6'100. That's fine. I just want a wider range of seat heights. One height does not fit all any more than one spring weight suits all or one size of jeans fit all.

Anyways, I'm derailing the thread, it's just a subject that annoys me quite a bit.

I may be wrong, but my memory recalls reading bike mags from the early 80's that seat heights were in the 36"+ range even back then.
