    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Best pipe for the 630!

So I like light weight AND the dual exhaust....anyone hear any word if someone is working on a full Ti dual exhaust setup?

Nope nothing yet. Your only options are the dual Arrows, Leos or the Doma slip-ons from bergos.de. All options are way better than the standard exhausts tho..
 
Is it a pain in the butt to change the arrestors out? Where do they go? In the can or down in the piping? I will be placing an order hopefully today!

I plan to run full open, with power up kit, and maze removed from airbox. Anybody running this setup? Thoughts?

Later plan to get the JD jetting unit as well.

That's the set up I run with a few extra holes in the airbox lid and I love it. JD kit and gearing is key!
 
Okay so I installed my leo vince. Man, it BARKS! When I started it and was just idling I thought, "Hey...this doesn't sound much different!" Then I twisted the throttle and BRAPP BRAPP**************************************** I like it because if I just cruise I can keep it to a reasonable volume but when I get on it lets you know!

Low end response is much improved, but as it transitions from mid to high revs it seems to be stumbling.

Issues:
Should I have put anti-seize on the bolts that screw into the engine block that hold the header pipe flanges?

Screw that holds the pipe onto the passenger peg mount was too short. Supplied screw was same length as stock screw so I had to remove passenger peg to mount pipe. Will buy a longer screw. Should this screw be locktited?

Lots of popping when I let off the throttle. Guess I need the power surge. Will order today. Should I not run it at all like this or am I okay for a few days while I wait for it to arrive?

Smelled a burning smell...is that common after installing a new exhaust? This is my first install. I thought maybe the bodywork was touching the pipe but it doesn't appear so. The only other thing I can think of is those rubbery things on the springs. But I would imagine leo vince would make them out of a material that doesn't melt. I don't know, I finished up late last night. Maybe when I go down to the garage something will become evident in the light of day.
 
The burning smell could be the packing in the muffler. It's kind of a hot plastic smell. That's common and should go away with some use.

Deceleration popping is a symptom of running lean. You'll probably want to richen it up a bit. I don't know if running it like that will be that bad for it or not. I'll let someone else answer that question.

Ahhh yes the packing. Guess I'll have to use it a lot to make it go away faster! :D

I've got the same exhaust and also noticed a huge improvement in the lower rpm range.

When running the spark arrestor in the exhaust I get no decel popping with just P/U kit. Are you running yours without?

I did not put anti seize on the fastners that screw into the engine block. I don't think I recall the ship manual requiring this nor the Leo instructions. I did find them very difficult get a torque wrench on however.

I also found that the bolt you mention short too and had to purchase a longer one. I have notified Leo about this.

Nope, no spark arrestor or dB killer, just straight pipe.

Yeah, those screws were a pain to get access to! But that's what I like about doing things myself. You always encounter some kind of problem, go buy a new tool, and then you've learned something new!

Yeah I let leo know also. Hopefully I can find a similar screw. How long is the one that you bought?

Attached is a pic of my header pipe after about 20 miles. Normal?

If I remember correctly I had to cut down the end of an allen wrench to a short stub to get it on the header bolts.

The bolt for the mid-header hanger was about 1/4" longer.

You should try yours with the spark arrestor. I could tell mine was lean when just starting it up without any sparky.

I'll try to get a header shot of mine later tonight but that seems normal.

They sure are sweet systems.. I almost hate to take it off-road with this gem attached to the side.

Yes they are a work of art!

To get at those screws I loosened the radiators first to try to move them out of the way. Didn't help.
I was going to cut an allen wrench but then I found something better (see photo)

It was about 6 bucks (5mm size) at lowes but I guess craftsman makes them too if there isn't a lowe's near you. I don't know if I still would've had to loosen the radiators, but it made working on those screws as easy as pie!

So yeah all you future leo vince system owners, buy that tool before you attempt to install your new system!

One more question.

When I get on the throttle hard, it kinda BRAPPs louder. But then when the revs level off, it's quieter. Is this normal, or is this "popping on acceleration" which leo vince rep tells me is BAAAD.
 
You mean to ask if it should be louder accelerating than cruising? or louder in the lower rpms and quiets as you get to the top of the range (same throttle %)?
 
Yes, motors make more noise accelerating than cruising (noise is proportional to throttle %). As long as the noise is smooth the entire time, it shouldn't be a problem. However, the PU mod alone with the vastly more free flowing pipe probably means your bike is on the lean side of safe. I wouldn't thrash on it (make loud noise) a lot until you have a tuner.
 
Exactly what I was thinking...If they made bodywork in flat black to match the tank and if I bought black wheels...that is what this bike would look like if I won the lottery! :D
