• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

BETA BIKE OF THE YEAR

Back to the original point of this thread. It is clearly wrong for a former dealer to come on here and sell Beta because he was wronged by Husqvarna. You can't build yourself up by tearing someone else down.

That being said I do like the idea of Beta, but at 6' 3", not sure I like the sound of the lower seat height and I read one report that said it was cramped. Any thoughts?
One of the main reasons I like Husky is I feel so comfortable just sitting on them compared to all other bikes. I am sure with KTM influence they will get smaller.

I was at the Indy Dealer Show a few years ago.... I was talking to the owner of a pretty mainstream bike product and he spent 5 minutes trashing his competition. Not once did he tell me anything about the benefits of his products or specifically how they were better than the competition, just trash talk. They may be successful and sell a lot of product, but not to me. I was blown away.....

Sort of amusing to hear people bitch about gas tanks. Our Huskies have not had much love from the aftermarket and we've waited for months to get a 3.0 gal tank and over a year to get a larger one, Our stock tanks were 1.9 gal not the 2.2 of the Beta. It is a nice bike but as a CA rider I can get more use out of a green sticker or street legal bike. As much as I might want one (and I do, a little) it's not for me.

Just snagged the Dirt Rider magazine out of the mail box and went straight to the article. I have to say, after reading the article, I was actually less interested in the Beta strangely enough. They didn't have glowing remarks about the suspension or the transmission. Reading the article (except for the suspension part), you could have substituted "Gas Gas 300" or "Husaberg 300" in there and the article would have read the same. haha. The wonderful fact of the matter is that two strokes are getting some love again and all of the 250/300 offerings out there are outstanding. That being said, I would love to try out this Beta 300 and form my own opinion of the bike as I am not an expert rider and for my experience level I might just LOVE the Sachs suspension on the Beta. I'm also interested in trying the Sherco 300 when the National Enduro comes to Oklahoma City. And most of all, I hope to see a killer new Husqvarna 300 on the Bike of the Year cover page and in my garage. :D

Well if we are going to sell Betas on CH I might as well let you 3 that have them know I have a damper that works. Shown missing the bar risers but fits great. One happy customer already :D

I couldn't help but notice that the test for BOTY includes many references to KTM so as not to piss off their patron's in the dirt bike industry. And OMG it has Sachs suspension on it, oh the shame of it all, what clowns. My peeve with whomever is the Editor at the time at the Magazine offices is that they fail the ordinary dirt biker with misinformation and this need to entertain them selves with the bling factor,Webb at Dirt Bike may be the odd man out but Dirt Rider dances for coins for the Japanese factory's and KTM call the tune. My case rests with how well TM, Gas Gas, Husky and Sherco do in Europe but heaven forbid if they should be a player here, cause well just cause. That is how i feel about the naysayers with regards to Husqvarna. What in the world is wrong with a well set up WR250 or 300? Nothing if the rider can ride it. Rant Over. If they close the Italian plant down i will be inclined to go to Sherco or Gas Gas but until then i'm husky 100%. My brothers and sisters in Italy deserve better. I really have liked all of mine that iv'e owned except the 610 cause it sucked. I would guess at the chance of sounding chirlish or snotty, we are all just little children is search of the perfect toy. Mine just happens to be Red and powered by a 250cc 2-smoke.

Bike Of The Year is a joke, Cannondale won it once and they (mags) had not even seen the bike. It turned out to be garbage. I like how they said "coveted BOTY award" Who covets it? whatever. More smoke and mirrors infotainment. All that said I bet that Beta is good. Hell almost every 2 stroke built in the last 10 years IS.

This thread is...

Not as entertaining as reading Rears oil cooler woes. :busted:

Seems G. touched some nerves off here and much speculation has occurred, he does still service Husky ya know?!

I love how everyone is making excuses for Husky and hating on the Beta before even riding one or for that matter looking at one. You guys do realize that Husky is just going to be another KTM which most people on here have claimed are no good also. So is Husky still going to be the greatest bike ever in 2014?
Take a ride on a new Beta and make your own decision. I'm sure you won't be disappointed and at $7999 US list it is also a great value.

I love the look and possibilities the new Beta's provide. It is just hard for me to justify $8K on a bike that will take about another $2K to get it the way I want it and that doesn't account for all the spare parts I will buy because that is what I do. I just have so much invested in the current Huskies that I will probably just keep them going for the next few years. I can buy at least 2 new ones if available for what I will have in the Beta. I don't think anyone is slamming the Beta and I loved it when I sat on one in Lost wages.

I think most of us realize the Beta is a great bike. As is the GG, TM, husky etc. I for one am not hating on the Beta at all, in fact i really like them. The KTM engined one I rode was just OK and was more a wramed over KTM than anything but the new all Beta ones seem to be super nice and setup for tight woods like I like, no hate here.

Let us not get personal, nor inject information that is not on Cafe Husky. Please.

Those types of things are not appreciated.

What's the weight like? I love my Gas Gas 300, but its a bit on the heavy side of the 300-two-stroke-spectrum and i'm a 98 pound weakling. haha

"i'm a 98 pound weakling" wow, your only 98lbs and you ride a 300? I bet that thing hauls the mail with you on it lol im not a big guy either at only 140.

Ok, as a member of the practice pros, i mean that's my gig i practice for hrs' in case i finally do an XC or two. So from that perspective i like the idea of a bike that is reliable and simple hence the term 2-stroke Husky. But there is no doubt in my mind that there are dirt bikes being made in Europe that exceed my Husky and my ability. Yes i want the new Beta, and yes also for TM, Gas Gas are awesome and mostly Sherco. Tm's rock but i couldn't use their virtues to the degree they are designed same with a 300rr Beta, so i stay with old reliable until i get the Sherco 300cc just because it will be a design from the heart of an engineer who appreciates old fools with a pocket book. i like the idea that Europe's on the march in the Moto-cycle world but i'm afraid that the writings on the wall boys [ and girls ] oops. It really is a time of change for the better i think.
