• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

BRMoto Beefy Rear Rack... truly beefy :)

Th
Guys, it is a prototype.

You are asking many excellent questions, and when I next communicate with BRMoto I will attempt to get those answers, or they/he may log in and answer them. But I can answer a few of them:
  • Yes the support for the rear fender can be removed for those who do not need it
  • Yes the rear rack supports from the panniers (side racks) can be removed for those who do not want that support. Obviously would not be as beefy, but probably better than any other product out there (not sure). As far as I am concerned the main reason for that support, other than making the rack beefy, is to eliminate the "Eigen frequency oscillations" i.e. at some rpm, load, road/trail conditions, situation - the rack will find a natural frequency to bounce at (sort of like a guitar string). The oem rear rack does that a huge amount, as does the rear fender for instance.
  • At this time, with this prototype, the side racks are needed to use this top rack, because the forward mounting hole attach to the side racks - they may create an adapter - not sure.
  • I've no idea as to pricing, availability, or when any websites will be updated

Thanks for the info. As you can tell a lot of us are quite excited by this!

Is the rear fender support bar removable? Would be cool for those that removed their rear fenders and are now running the Tail Tidy

Just a suggestion.
Just want to be clear. Yes that can be removed, but it also can be rotate to a variety of positions. Try to visualize raising and lowering that bar around the the end bolts. It could well be that could work (or at least be out of the way) for people that have altered the rear fender or used a Tail Tidy. For me, I simply put the bar on, raised it so it supported the rear fender to my personal preference, then tightened.

I initially thought about a Tail Tidy, and all the other solutions for the rear fender, but after I saw these BRMoto side racks I knew what the answer for me was to the problem of the rear fender.

Update:
  • I am still awaiting a call back from BRMoto - they are super good at communication, so I am sure contact will be made soon if it is possible.
  • The largest variable in the schedule last we communicated was my availability, getting the prototype to me, my evaluation to see if there needs to be any changes which would require another round of changes & evaluation - but the rack fits perfectly, 100% fit first time around. So I would assume the date they will be available should be much 'firmer' now.

Just thought I would give an update, I realize many of you would like the rear rack asap.

Update:

Just talked to them on the phone, they will give an update later today in this thread.

If an update does not happen for 24 more hours, please do not panic, it sounds like they are *super* busy... so if you could possibly avoid calling them to ask about this rear rack, and let them give updates in this thread, that would be fantastic.

If updates do not happen for some reason, I will make additional contact. I am aware of the keen interest in this project.

If we say to much here, we could impact the pricing in the wrong way. :banghead:

For the record, I said I'd buy in the poll. I also told BR Moto a while back that I'd buy the instant they are available. I think there stuff is fairly priced, I have no reason to believe that this item won't be. I don't expect it to be $130, like some other models, as this one is more complicated. I don't expect it to be $280 either, it's not as complicated as a set of hoops. Well, at least not as much material. It's really not a rear rack, it's a rear rack system, comprising both the rack, and the necessary infrastructure.

SW-Motech option is $130. Not nearly as much beef. Available?
Hepco Becker option is $150. Even less beef. Available?
Rugged Exposure will probably make you something for <$1k
Touratech option $115, a pretty cover that hides the plastic and adds no real value, Avaialble?

We'll know soon.

hard to say you might buy somthing not knowing at least a target price.
If you ever get a chance to meet the guy who runs BRMoto - do it. Great guy. I believe the pricing will be reasonable.

In my personal situation, a beefy rear rack will save at least 67 gallons of fuel every year, I've been over stressing that OEM rack greatly and have been quite surprised it has lasted as long as it has, but great care has been taken.

Go to their site and try to order that, they require an adapter plate to be purchased and the least expensive is $40. That isn't really a solution except for the lightest applications (personal opinion).

Dont forget TCI. Price ??? Beef, probably plenty without being overkill. Available, hopefully soon.

I edited your post as shown, I believe that is what you meant. If you meant to say 'are' instead of 'our' feel free to change it back, or let me know and I can do that.
