• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

CJBROWN ... very glad you´re on board and wish you´d been here earlier. Would have been a great help when I was going through the routine (would be v. grateful for a few more words on the canister (not sure what it does and where to get the plugs in your pic.).

Does the euro version even have a canister? They put them on US bikes to capture tank vapors and route them back into the motor. Our epa has this big thing about a few gasoline vapors getting out into the atmosphere! But we have ships and trains and trucks and buses spewing polutants into the air in huge volumes. Our bikes seem pretty insignificant.

Do you have one on your bike? Have you removed it or want to?

Which plugs? For the vacuum line for the canister? If that's it, then just a fine thread machine screw will replace the brass hose nipple.

Thanx for the quick reply. Maybe that´s why I couldn´t find it! (I´ll look into the spares list so that I know where to look). If it´s not there ... one thing less to worry about.

It's the big, goofy looking soda can on the right side of the engine, mounted to the front engine mount.

Here's a pic of everything I yanked as soon as I got the bike home, canister is on the right:

I searched and searched online for photos of these bikes with the canister but none of them have one on it. Here's a photo from a local dealer that had an ad pic of their bike and if you look on the right side of the motor you'll see the silly vapor canister hung on it:

I just noticed the dealer sticker on your reflector....now motorcycle dealerships are doing it to!?!?!?!?! I see a lot of cars (mostly from the east coast) that have a dealer badge or sticker stuck on their car. I would not buy a car that had some other guys name on it, plain and simple. I hope this trend doesn't grow any further!

I guess my dealer put a temporary license plate on my bike with the dealer name on it, but to me that makes sense. It is on my bike while it is BRAND NEW and looks great. Then after a few weeks, it comes off.

Why would the dealer want their name on a beat to hell POS car?

It's called marketing. I just remove all that stuff. And all the warning stickers. And all the mfr stickers on accessories. And dealer license frames. I don't allow them to make me their advertising medium.

The latest craze? Social marketing, aka Facebook. Google is just developing a 'like' system for their advertisers.

Yeah, Upstate is a great outfit, they know their stuff and I tell everyone who wants to know anything where I got the bike, but the only time the sticker was on the bike in public was on the trailer home because I chopped the tail as soon as I got it in the workshop :p

At least they stuck it somewhere that they knew it wouldn't be staying long anyway...

Oooooh... I searched somewhere between engine and throttle body. Didn't think of such an obvious and misplaced canister that's hanging off the bike  Looks like another US only part :D

This is why there are fuel vapor recapture devices at service stations and on vehicles:

LA in the 50's and 60's. Every interest group (motorcyclists, pilots, gas stations,...) think that they're too small to have an effect and should be exempt from the rules. But...the air in the LA basin is an order of magnitude better than it was a few decades ago.

The canister has zero effect on the operation of the motor. It keeps unburned fuel out of the air and every vehicle with one does its little part in keeping the smog down. It's only required in California, but manufacturers find it easier and cheaper to just put them on all vehicles.

Hey CJ, what handle bar diameter did you use for the Cycra Pro-Bend bar pack? I looked on the fancy Husky USB thumb drive but couldn't find and I don't own a micrometer. Part number perhaps?

There are only 2 bar types these days, 7/8 which is the old style with a cross bar, and the 1-1/4 - 1-1/2 (the larger one) for tapered bars. Ours is the latter.

EDIT: try these guys, they usually have good prices, ship fast, are good guys:
www.cyclebuy.com They're in Oregon.

EDIT2: Slavens has them for $112. Magura bars are 1-1/8": http://slavensracing.com/products/ktm/cycra-probend-crm-handguard-racer-pack-1-18

Ah yes, the new-fangled version.
Have not heard of these 'till researching accessories for this new bike. How do you like them? Are they worth it?

Bars have never been a biggie for me. Whatever was on them, as long as they weren't bent, were fine with me.

Magura and tapered bars require special clamps, the internal diameter on the clamps needs to be flared to fit the taper properly. Otherwise the clamp will bite into the bars and damage them.

Good points...I'd hate to have to breathe that! We have to have harder regs because there are so many more people in CA than most other places.

Now if they would just make it out of billet aluminum or carbon fiber so it looked like a race part no one would complain

Mine fit perfectly without modification.

Total price Canadian was close to $500.00. They came off my TXC where they were a big help with forearm fatigue and with my bad shoulder. Not sure they would warrant the cost for the new bike but i took them off my old bike before trading it in.
