• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Forum Software and please don't do what TT is doing...

Straight up reliability I would put 3.8 a bit above all the others right now, but like you mentioned you gotta move forward.

The sentence in bold is the issue ... These 4 words are what drives everything know to mankind to a very high degree.

Think about it ....think about it hard ... word for word :

You ..... gotta .... move .... forward .... (who is the boss here telling me to move :) )

What does it really mean .... Why not you gotta move across? Why not move sideways? Why not you gotta move back? Why not you gotta stay where you are?

Why must we always go forward into the .... the abyss!! ???

I have been thinking about mankind from day 1 to today .... I can only come up with these fews items than are real changes and we needed ... everything else is just fluff or a knock-off.

1) The printing press (this has to be the single greatest invention ever)
2) Electricity
3) Telephone (maybe)
3) Internal combustion engine (maybe)

I think moving forward is always a good thing to be planning, but sometimes staying put is the best course of action especially if everyone is happy and plan to move forward where there's something worth moving towards. I don't know yet how I will like the TT upgrade, but time will tell. I do like how CH is right now though.

FWIW, this is just a setting within your control panel. Go in to your CP and choose user options, under there (the very last option) change it from WYSIWYG Editor to basic text.

Advrider is the same way as TT by default. Drives me nuts.

Well that would be cool but I don't see where i can do that in my profile now. :excuseme:

I thought you did not like using that method, regardless:
User CP -> Edit Options -> Message Editor Interface (at the bottom of the screen)

Basic, standard (what the forum default is), wysiwyg (what TT is sort of using)

Just a heads up, I've been playing with the new TT software, and you should all be aware of something.

It appears hot linking any picture from a hosting place such as photobucket, makes a handy reference copy is made in you personal album on TT.

That personal album is viewable by everyone, even people not logged in / guests. I would assume that the search engines will also archive them.

It looks like the pictures in peoples albums can be manually deleted, not terribly sure if they are deleted, hidden, or something else.

So if you put up a picture you only wanted to share for a limited time, intended in the context of the thread, by default that will be saved, viewable by all members, guests, and search bots - and that picture would be taken completely out of context.

For example a funny pic, or a pic of a loved one, that makes sense in a thread will be viewed by people that did not read the original thread.

That could be an important piece of information to some members of TT, especially the paying members (TTT).

I was trying to turn it to text only on TT and having no luck.

I have to say i like how this site looks and runs a billion times better than TT at the moment.

Cafe Husky is super user friendly and I like that because I am not very tech savy at all. I still think cell phones are for making calls. The point is a lot of us just want a simple easy to use forum with out a bunch of tech stuff. If there is nothing worth upgrading to right now, why not wait ? Are we trying to fix something that isn't broken ? I guess I do not understand ( no really I do not ) .

No................................ you will not be able to have text only on TT, nor will having typed in smilies work. Cafehusky it is selectable.

The wysiwyg is incredibly handy for some things - copy paste links, pics, etc from other places on the internet, and the show up as originally formatted with a hot link (if applicable). Toggling between the 2 methods can save a lot of key strokes.

I've been looking at the huddler powered websites, some interesting intended audiences, some far less technical than the average dirtbike rider. And they all look the same, font, color, contrast, buttons, operations... I seriously doubt TT will change much.

Some lively discussions in regards to the change on those other websites. :)

The intent was to make things easier to use, not harder.

I dunno what we are going to do, or when. But I need to decide something this week because they are having a sale that is ending - and everyone loves to save $

That does not mean we will be using new software anytime soon, It could take months to get things set up.

It is quite likely that I could buy it, try to use it, make it as friendly as possible, evaluate it - then not use it at all.

Although TT is a little tough to navigate now, and there are some really unfriendly things about usability, I can see long term how it could work out from a User Interface point of view to gather bike & gear information.

Could you fine people do me a favor?

If you see discussions about TT software change on other forums/sites, could you post a link or send me a PM with a link?
