• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oooooo.....that's a lot of number crunching!

I simply reset the Trip Meter at every fill-up. Gives me everything I need to know.

Am I missing something clever here?

I use the trip meter on my GPS if I really want total miles for a day or trip.

While still at the gas station while you are re-filling, how to read the trip odometer? Can that be read or reset while the low fuel light is still on?

Sure....you can toggle thru all the modes anytime you want, and reset the ones you desire to. So, fill your tank and reset the trip meter and the UG meter (gas used). Write down your mileage and gallons filled on a notepad, if you want to track your mpg by tankful. Same as you would do for a car.

Even though the Reserve Gauge pops up on screen and starts counting, it does not override the other counters. They all continue to function as normal, whether the Fuel Light is on or not. Push your "S" button and see what happens.

i use fuelly (www.fuelly.com) to track my mileage. they have a nice sms interface, all you do is text <optional letter to designate vehicle> <miles travelled> <price per gallon> <gallons used> to a number they give you, and they text you back with the mpg of that tankful. they keep historical records of mileage, price per gallon etc. you can even put notes in a fill up, i use it to track oil used etc.

there's a GUI phone app, if you don't want to just text (i find texting quicker). they also give you forum badges you can put in a .sig. (i've not filled up my Strada yet, so there's no data, but here's the badge for my WR250X that I just sold:

Edit: here's the banner for my husky

You can also search the site for vehicles and see what milage other users are getting.

The TR650 does not call for 95 Octane, it calls for 95 RON. It is a difference in scales, like Celsius to Farenheit. RON is Research Octane Number, and is what is shown on the pump in Australia and all European countries. In North America, and most of South America, they use the AKI (Anti-Knock Index), which is the average of the RON and the Motor Octane Number (MON). If you look closely at the yellow buttons in HighFive's picture, you will see that it shows the formula for AKI, which is (R+M)/2. Sometimes, the AKI is referred to as the Pump Octane Number (PON), but it is formally known as the AKI.

The Euro standard of 95 RON is equivalent of 90-91 AKI.

Gotcha. Couldn't see the detail on the pump. Was unaware of the different use of RONMONPON

Although this is straight out of the manualTerra Fuel.JPG

Hence my previous statement about octane

Another vote for Fuelly. Here's my current Terra stats:

I went ahead and ran out my tank doing laps by the gas station. It stuttered on a smooth and level road, I flipped a U and tried firing it up again...no dice. One foot skateboarded it on the station and could fit 3.609 gallons to the top of the red plastic and bike on the side stand. So, if it's 3.7 gallons.....that's 1/10th of a gallon that may still be in there. One more data point.

Well I ran dry a couple weeks ago on the way back from Asheville ..running hard in the fast lane...in a hurry to get home..I thought I'd sputter or miss a bit as a warning but it was exactly like you had turned the key off. Dead. No warning at all. Oh....and my OD read 26 miles since the light had come on. I had gone further in the past ....but not running WFO on the slab..got to try my rotopax for the first time..worked great. The H fired right up after adding fuel. Gotta love F/I !

My fuel light came on when I was in the middle of no where. I drove back to the city on the highway at about 90-95kmh (about 58MPH). When I got to the pump my reserve guage showed 38km (24miles) traveled. I thought for sure I was gonna run out, but I made it. When I filled it up it took 13.02L (3.44 US gallons). Thats as close as I am going to get....knock on wood.

http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/husqvarna/tr650 Mine is "The Other Woman". I figured I may as well track from day 1.

Love the site. Next fuei up is mostly road miles, but I tried the 89 octane for giggles. She does not like this stuff, also used a different brand of fuel, instead of Chevron. I'm still hoping to get over 60 MPH this time.

But from here on out, had my 600 mile checkup, the throttle will be twisted much more.

I don't know how people get such high milage. Mag00, it looks like you are getting 61mpg, i can't break 50 with my Strada. I only ride on the road, and at most 50% city driving. I guess I should lighten up in the right grip a little..

Of course, my lousy mileage could be due to the lame 10% ethanol gasoline we get around here. Anyone else stuck with that?

Here in MO they're allowed to put up to 10% without even telling you. A couple of BP stations have 91 octane no alcohol for sale. It has it's own hose on the pump which I like for my bikes.
On a trip down to Arkansas recently a station had a sign, "No methanol, no alcohol, no lottery." Wish I'd taken a picture, my kind of store.

Mine will get worse, trust me. I'm just babying it for the break in. keep it under 5K rpm and it does great, over 5k and it drinks that fuel like a drunken sailor and rum.

I will try one tank at the 55 mph and see if I can hit 70 mpg.

My Beemer was a big disappointment, I was lucky when I hit 38mpg.

Interesting, thanks.

I've taken a closer look at it just now (first time my Low fuel light has been on in a while), and you are correct... however, it could be that while the trip meter is being displayed, the 'S' button might need an extra second or 2 of it being pressed before it resets, compared to when the Low fuel light is not being displayed.

I will continue to play with that.
