• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just wanted to jump in here about wheels/rims:

Does anyone know what rims fit the Terra/Strada? I bought the Strada and noticed the BMW G650 GS rims are basically identical. Parked next to one the other day and the brake/ABS rotors are also identical. Does this mean I can just purchase whatever spoke rims fit the G650 series for my Strada? I'd like to get spoke rims to swap out, but so far the only rims I've seen that's marketed for the G650 bikes are like 800 apiece which seems absurd to me.

My plan is to have the cast Strada rims for commuting and the occasions I can finally take it on a trip it was meant for I'd put the spoke rims with knobbies on it. Maybe my Google-fu is terrible, but I'm trying to find what I can get for the Strada as far as rims, etc. I'd probably end up up-sizing to the Terra size rims (21/19 IIRC) and get a Terra front fender. I THINK I found a thread about that around here once upon a time, but can't seem to find it again.

Anyone have some info?

I have a set of used GS cast wheel/rims I picked up for my Terra for commuter and road touring duty.

The 2011 and later G650GS and the Strada wheels/rims are identical as are everything that bolts to them.
Also everything that bolts to them also bolts to the Terra hubs.

The Terra hubs appear to be identical to the BMW 650 Sertao's and 2009-2010 BMW G650GS.
I think they are the same as the 2007 and earlier (single cylinder) F650GS bikes, but not 100% sure.

Yes, spoked wheel sets are expensive, shoot new cast wheels are too.
Your only hope is to find a used set.

The bmw air filter will work. I confirmed with side by side for terra air filter

The K&N looks like it may need a foam sealing ring, and have not tried it on a Terra. The BMW one looks like ours. I have physically fitted one to the Terra. Dimensions seem to be OK. BMW one is a match.

So are those dimms similar to ours?

So far it looks like the stock beemer one is identical to ours. My Terra measurements match the KN except for Height, which is not an issue for us then.

edit: stock beemer one is the same as the terra. $20 at BMW

edit: DNA filter does not fit.

It appears that the indicator bulbs are a bmw specific type. A couple of auto parts stores couldn't find matching bulbs in their supplier books. My Husky dealer couldn't order them either.

So a trip down to the local bmw dealer and ... part #63217169203

A quick search on the net shows these as equivalent bulbs...

Osram 5009
Philips 12093
KTM 6011427000
Aprilia AP8127489
Ducati 390.4.021.1A
Buell Y0042.7AA

If you are miles from anywhere then getting a replacement might be a chore but, then again, if you're miles from anywhere then indicating for traffic is probably not something you have to worry about. :)

Picked up a MSR #34-2148, it sticks out about an inch more than stock. May have a problem with boots hitting it. Didn't road test it, waiting for the ice to melt off my street. Found a shifter off a 89 XR100 that I had extended an inch in my parts bin. The bends are the same as stock shifter. Going to use it instead

Sidestand bolt is attached with a nut at back holding switch..easy to break end of bolt.
Interchangeable with BMW 800 series
Husky code 7719788 BMW 46537719788

And a hint from Ogre in Florida "FWIW when I am looking for parts the first thing I do is an internet search with "BMW" then the Husky part number.
In this case its "BMW 7719788"
