  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My TE511 review...

hardcore DS nice. you'll get used to how to make her turn, even the ZTR pros mentioned that it takes a bit of time with the new rear set up., plus as you know there is some experimenting going on as well, hope that trickles down for you guys. good report.

Congratulations on the awesome 511. Looks like you got the Karoo's to. I can understand it on the 630, but the other TE's don't need/want them. What are they thinking?

Euro FIM limited DS tires. We never get US spec tires which would make more sense. Heck my bike has some Canada compliance sticker too???

Transport Canada generally accepts the same regs as the US DOT. There are a few differences on cars, but bikes are pretty much the same. Makes it easier for the mfr's to make a bike North American compliant as opposed to one for the US and one for Canada.........

No joke. My TE310 came with Karoos. I just had some Bridgestone M404s spooned on this morning. I'll save the Karoos for the 610

Probably good Ds tires. Heck i was busting 4 inches of snow uphill on semi gnarly single track without issue. I got the Pirelli 43 DOT trails tire for the back (when the weather gets a little better) and a Motoz up front. that 140 Karoo works OK but the front was flat scary in the snow / mud slurry.

Buddy Ken just stopped by to see the 511. He has a KTM 530 DS bike. His first reaction was "WOW, it looks and feels a lot smaller and lighter than my 530 and than I thought it would be" He loved it. Said that it is by far the most modern looking dirt bike he has ever seen. Even thought the muffler looked cool in person. He has a owned a lot of nice bikes, (decked out WR250, 6 days GG300, KTM 250, KTM 530), he will most likely try it out this weekend and we can get his ride impressions.

You got me thinking my 2006 drz 400s with 10000km which I use as my street explore bike might need to go. The Drz with fcr carb and yoshi pipe and bar riser and bars has been a great bike but this sounds like another level. I was thinking 630 but the 511 might be a good fit. 80% I ride bike around town on asphalt like sm model 20% gravel roads with 5 % highway. Great review.

I have ridden DRZ's and owned a 06 TE610 which I built into an SMR. Both are good bikes. But, for what you describe, basically no long highway miles the TE511 would be a hoot. Way more fun than the 630 or DRZ as it will feel 50 pounds lighter and the spunky motor make it fun for wheeling and such. The 511 is WAY smoother than ether bike and smaller / more nimble meaning FUN. If you were doing more highway miles and adventure stuff I would for sure recommend the 630.

A truck came by Uptite today while I was over and I helped George a little in getting a TE449 and TE511 uncrated and put together. They were a little easier to do as the lights were hanging there ready to go. They come with a Quick Manual in booklet form and a USB manual. Started up the 511 and it sounded pretty mild. Oil filler is meant for little people's hands. I'll bet you'll need a tool to do it.....

George commented that they rolled very easily, even after he took the air down from 30 to around 15.

Wow,, thinking of the big brothers... lol I'm waiting for this in a 310 or even a 250 TE... Comon guys dont make the first US report come from the Hawaiian Islands..........

Well I'm glad you finally got your new bike Kelly. oregonsage, I hate you.
It sounds like a great bike, it is too bad though that they can't come up with a WR transmission. Maybe as their market share increases, there will be enough volume to pay for the tooling etc.

Sounds like a great bike save for the Tranny. It sound like it will work for you but I think I would need a lower 1st making 6th less usable. Glad the engine is smooth with the counter balancer. I am really interested in learning what the fuel range will be on a tank of gas.

Me too. Thats actually my only hangup with the bike at this point. But I am making the assumption that it get mileage like the Berg (same EFI) So that means 70-75 plus miles which covers a lot of my rides / needs. We will see.

Random musings: The more I look at the muffler the more I like it.
