  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My TE511 review...

George commented that they rolled very easily, even after he took the air down from 30 to around 15.

Funny he mentioned this. It really is EZ to walk it around, I chalk it up to mass centralization vooodoo.

Part of it is the tight chain drags on nothing. CTS rules he he he.

Did I mention this big bore 4 stroke has very little engine braking. About like a 250 2st. Fun.

Well I'm glad you finally got your new bike Kelly. oregonsage, I hate you.
It sounds like a great bike, it is too bad though that they can't come up with a WR transmission. Maybe as their market share increases, there will be enough volume to pay for the tooling etc.

Wait until I let you ride it on the central Oregon desert ... then you can hate me !!

Me too. Thats actually my only hangup with the bike at this point. But I am making the assumption that it get mileage like the Berg (same EFI) So that means 70-75 plus miles which covers a lot of my rides / needs. We will see.

Random musings: The more I look at the muffler the more I like it.
You won't like it, when you see the Akropovic one on it, that we get here in Oz as standard

by the way dodnt drop tyre pressure any lower than 15 psi as it will rip the valve off the tube because of i think more grip and maybe cts,you probally couldnt any way due to the extra weight of that exhaust

That cleaning brush with ice on it is hilarious****************************************! I like your ethusiasm. Your ride [bike] report was great but your way of expressing things just jumps out at us, like a school kid with a new lunch box!!! Or do kids have lunch boxes anymore??? Anyway, you know what I mean.

Bikes are crack for me, that much should be obvious at this point.

My friends all say no one is a more hard core rider than me (will go in rain snow and every day if I could) luckily I know Jake and can just answer "Jake is more hard core" Thanks Jake.

Thanks Kelly,

I am turning into a moto sissy though...

Later,

I know you are new to the bike but what are your thoughts on the stock muffler? I really hate loud bikes and don't like that barge hanging off the bike, but won't run a loud muffler like all the aftermarket ones seem to be these days. I think the stock 2011 TE250 is obscenely loud and that is why I bought a 2009 TXC 250 over the 2011 TE250. My 2004 TE250 was really quiet and had great power. Why can't Husky go back to that? Hopefully these new TE's run well with the stock exhaust or the aftermarket makes something in the 92 to 94 db range. It amazes me how many trail riders are running mufflers at the 98+ range.

I hated it in pictures but like it in person and LOVE the sound or lack off. It is VERY quiet and seems to work well. I think it might stay. I'm sure it caps the top end some but the bike makes GREAT power so who cares.

In the US, the TXC has the same pipe but with the Akro fitted. My TXC 511 with the Akro is not offensive at all, and I agree with your stance on the annoyance of loud bike pipes. (Note, the TC pipe has both a different headpipe and muffler than the TXC/TE)

All I can say is that after seeing these bikes up close today... is.... sweet! If I didn't just buy a 2011 CR150, I would be buying one of these 449's... look nice, seem to be fairly easy to deal with, despite the learning curve involved... I think these may work out just fine.

Later,

First, it is good to hear U got UR bike Kelly and are pleased so far ... It'll be good times riding and getting used to it over the next few months as the snow melts and the mountains become ridable ... I'm sure you'll be up there early, pushing the snow line back each week :) ... I wouldn't sweat the pipe too much ... It is what it is and it is a 450? There should be plenty of horses avail for riding ...

Yep, I'm new to the tracks also and they seem to offer a safe riding environment (depending on other riders mostly) ... more so than the trails ... And my bike does not get beat up so bad there ... Engine might take a little more abuse but overall it is an easier environment for the machine...

PS -- the videos from cycle torque sounded like his machine had lots of chain noise also ...

very coolbike. I'm loving the look and great FI, but worry the fuel range is going to be too short here in S. Nevada. My 09 TE 450 with the IMS 3 Gal tank runs dry right at 106 miles. More than once I've run out right at the truck. Maybe we'll see a side tank like Safari makes for the 570 berg.

Got two more real rides on the bike. WOW. Will do a complete writeup but top EZ cruz speed on the street is about 55 with stock gearing but will easily pull taller gearing so drop about 3 teeth on the rear and it should be good for about anything. I got 43 MPG on a DS ride. Get way less on single track.
