• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So...this old gal sort of arrived at my doorstep.
It's a lot like the European stuff I used to covet as a lad...CZ, Maico, Husky, Bultaco...
I'm pretty smitten, although the guy I got it from was such a doofus, I'm not even going to fire it up without giving it a going over.
The 2 first, most obvious things I noticed were a homemade brake rod...piece of all thread with a clevis welded on.
This seems to me to be an almost universal part and maybe looking for an original isn't necessary, but I would like something that doesn't look like it comes from Ace Hardware.
The other is, there is a lot of play in the shift shaft.
Whatever hole or bushing it goes through is clearly shot and the previous owner did tell me it leaks from there.
Right behind the shaft, in the case, is a screw....looks like a set screw or something, but it seems to thread into something that also spins when I turn it...with fingers.
What is that?
I need a shop manual!
Any help for a Husky newbie out there?
Oh...crap...this is one of those sites where you need a hosting thing to post an image...
I'll try to get on that.
Oh, yeah...one of the things that gave me a giggle about this bike is, I think I've had every imaginable configuration of motorcycle...left foot shift, right foot shift, left hand shift, right hand shift, right hand throttle, left hand throttle, LEVER throttle (!!)...but this is my first left side kicker.

Nice! Thanks. I guess I have to check the vin instead of going on faith. There seems to have been some changes and mine appears to be an '81.

The crappy brake rod is stock unfortunately. A CR brake rod looks nicer but I'd have to check whether it's a plug n play

So...I just got it running. What a sweet machine! Pulls hard from a walking pace in 2nd gear...no bucking or snatching...roll on the throttle and it pulls beautifully up to full rip. Fabulous. Its like a trials bike at low RPM and a wheel spinning ripper up on the revs.
I am so pleasantly surprised!

The 82-83 motors are great woods bikes! That motor makes me grin in the woods:D The CR brake rods are a lot nicer looking...

Yeap, blue tank with white stripe is 81, good woods bike.

And flat plate brake arm as shown, NOT a rod is stock for XC

Rear brake setup don't look right though, maybe it's just the
picture angle.

Your brake rod not stock. Blue tank with white stripe is XC model , dark blue with gold stripe is WR. Good find !

I made the brake rod myself.
It came with a piece of all-thread with a clevis crudely welded to the end.
I couldn't even look at it, not to mention attach it to my motorcycle!
