• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Northwest Fall Gathering Round 2 - China Hat / Bend Oregon Oct 2011

I think 2510 would work
. There is another big site between 2510 and camp 2 I think.

The Road 25 staging area is between 2 and 2510. There are large group areas and the small sites are farther apart. If someone wants privacy there are sites that sit away from the main area.
I probably like it the most.

Yes that is 25 that I mentioned up above. It really does offer the best solution to keep the group together. I had hoped to ride out there and take pictures last weekend but we ended up staying closer to town.

Camp 25 Map

Zoom in for a closeup or out to see the route to Bend
Any chance for a location of where I, woodsChick, etc stayed last year? I've no idea what that campground name was...

In addition, your map is titled China Hat Area 25, but 2 blue pins show up neither of which say '25' on them, I'm not sure which one is 25.

The two blue markers are because the Google map line wouldnt continue up the 'driveway' into the Staging Area/Campground (about 1/2 mile of level smooth road), so the marker at the end of the line is the road turnoff point and the second marker to the right (east) is Camp 25 itself. Not sure why the labels dont appear; I will take a look at that when I get a minute.

2510 is just off of the next crossroad to the north of 25 (where you stayed last year)
Camp II is just off of the next crossroad to the south of 25 (where another group was last year)

I was trying to avoid cluttering the map or creating confusion, but will try to add them if I can get the labels to show up.

25 has the space of 2510 without the local crowds (2510 is the first major spot locals hit when coming from town so on the weekend it fills up). 25 also offers a more treed setting similar to Camp II, but with more space for large rigs and the lower traffic of Camp II. If we are going to keep most people together then 25 offers the best option IMHO (and of others who posted above)

Outstanding information.

I was curious if 25 was more of an open area without trees, or if it had some trees. :)

I'll let you handle the map however you see fit (obviously).

Map has been updated with additional labels and markers per Coffee's suggestions. This should give everyone a better idea of area 25 in relation to those used last year (2510 and II).

You may notice that China Hat road goes into the South end of Bend from the gathering spot and appears to be a shorter route, however it is rippled gravel for 30 miles so not recommended unless you are riding your dual sport bike. OTOH, the mapped route is paved.

Now I know exactly where 25 is, I rode by it a couple of times last year trying to orient myself to the area...

Also if the photos and terrain are enabled on that map (upper right corner google options) the pictures can be seen on some of the hills to the right. :)

+1
And call me a sissy, but I don't like the dusty washboard on the 2510 Road.

ok.. changed the title a bit as requested. Let me know if you want it to be something else.

Did not want to put the actual days in the title.. though I did put the dates at the front of the post so that when people get their thread preview by putting their mouse over it, they will show up.

Sounds good

Before people start saying they won't, or will, go. Give me a bit of time, at least 10 days. Not sure what I can come up with, but anything is possible.
Alrighty.. finally some indication from Husqvarna NA..
  • They are excited and will be there in some capacity, yet to be determined.
  • At the very least a district rep will be there handing out information, stickers, etc, and will bring a few bikes.
  • It is quite possible that there will be pictures taken and used for marketing purposes, such as the Ride More journal.
  • It also sounds likely that some from the main office will also be there. It is also possible, that this could be *huge*, if certain people show up.

It all depends on peoples schedules which are yet to be determined, and probably cannot be determined until after everyone decides if they are going or not.

So there you have it, it is quite possible you could meet some of the HVNA top management in person, and ride with them, and be in a Ride More journal - if that makes any difference to whether you decide to come to this event or not. Personally I am thinking larger possibilities exist, but that's just me...

Sounds good, I'll be there most likely. Yes the 25 is perfect for this. Yes, you should put the dates in the title and make it obvious. Cool HVNA might be there in some capacity.

- An organized DS ride to the Ice caves might be cool.
- I'll bring some goodies to give away this year.
- Bill from Bills needs to show up this year.

Lets ride.
