• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Out and About (Terra, Strada)

I was reading a toolkit thread on ADV recently, and someone showed themselves using 2 small pulleys and some 550 cord to move a tree about that size. All in all, it packed up lighter than that Gomboy, and it gives you the ability to self-recover your bike. I've always kept two pulleys in the toolkits of my hacks, but this inspired me to find a pair for my other bikes too.

Does anyone carry something like this? Although it would take a bit for those 6" logs...it's still a fantastic little saw.
Never thought about while out on a D/S ride. But it's always in my boot when we're out on our dirt bikes. Old habit.

Ummm.... I recommend when people come across downed logs placed purposely across a road with a sign that says something like 'road closed' or 'do not enter' - to think before going any further.

Well, there is that. However, that is the first time I've ever seen a road closed sign on a log. Most of the time a tree is down and nobody has simply moved it yet. I'll take one for the team.

My apologize. I had to go back and read Krussell's post a little closer. I really thought it was windfall.
No I would not be cutting down trees with signs on them...good way to get shot.

Took the long way home from work....

I guess that's better than taking the long way to work...then calling in sick because your still having too much fun.
Heck that way you already have a nice lunch packed for when you get hungry .:busted:

Spent Saturday exploring nearby state/national forests. Lots of gravel, and about five miles of really rocky downhill forest road that had a lot of water damage from the winter. Most difficult stuff I've done on the Strada so far, had a blast.

Arrived home to a box from Twisted Throttle. This was likely the last unprotected ride.

My family are probably sick of hearing about the bike and where I go. Maybe you guys and girls will be more interested :)
These were up in Mt Robertson National park north of Melbourne this morning.
I've got to get some better tires as these Saharas just don't cope with mud or loose stuff.
Nev I notice you are in the neighbourhood mate, where did you get your beasty ?

Nice!

What model tank panniers are those? Do you find they mess up the airlow?
They are Wolfman Expedition tank panniers, don't think they make them anymore. I had the same concerns you have prior to fitting them. Will they mess up the airflow? In reality the exact opposite occurred. The quiet pocket now covers more of my body! I couldn't be more happy with the wind management on this bike.
