• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Loved the run up the Old Toolangi-Dixon’s Creek RoadView attachment 86036

That's a nice corner there with good views across the Yarra Valley.
Not the PFF, just the little hill near the Toolangi Vineyards. It had the "no-thru" signs on it for years and coming from the north the climb was a bit rocky but fine, the drop on the other side had about 2-3" of loose, powdery earth on top which had gotten saturated with rain and turned into a sloppy snot you could barely stand up in. One of the times the bike took me for a ride. :-)

There were a lot of signs that said ‘No Through Road’ or 4WD Only. I just ignored them and went exploringE5AD2AB3-5915-4D06-99B0-77EEBEDAF886.jpeg

Couple of days ride in the south west and west of Melbourne. Brisbane Ranges, Lerderderg forest and others. Happy to share GPX.

Imho there are very few replacements of the Terra currently available. The Husqy 701 is too expensive and teh standard tank is too small. The AJP and CCM are also a lot more expensive than the Terra was. The Himalayan is a lot less powerfull. The 790Adv isn't available yet, nor is the Yamaha T7.
The only thing that comes close in my opinion is the SWM Superdual.

i agree, but if new KTM 790 adventure weight is going down 200kg will be a nice option.

oh man, i miss the hills and the bush so much. Ducked out for a few days into the Texas hill country which was nice. Found a place (Enchanted rock) that looked a bit like there just doesn't smell right and all dirt roads seem to be private property. The few public ones were still impassable from the massive flooding a few weeks earlier. 44872057_2277053785700187_8411431670959308800_n.jpg44964378_1970128333068735_6116204893188390912_n.jpg45061026_1027149710826223_3758954643019792384_n.jpg

Hi lads....Just a quick note to share with people who understand (pointless otherwise)...Just fell in love with my bike again. Hadn't ridden off road for a while . Just returned from a thought investing solo trip to Flinders Ranges in Sth Oz.
Loaded to the gills ... water (have a survival straw but then again you need to find water to use it!!) ,extra fuel , food etc. Mitas EO-9 on rear and Continental enduro front.
The only issue is the 500km tar to get there .
Even loaded up had no issues ,power aplenty, grip to cry for given the circumstances.

Intentions next trip...Take my usual pillow (dont care about weight for that idea!!!:D)
May invest in upgraded suspension,at least rear
Lighter tent and lighter air mattress (yeah ,I know I am)
Dont forget coffee, beanie, and thongs (flip flops for US types)..
Water proof my accessory lights (rained for whole 500km outbound)
Get smaller gas burner
More fuel

But otherwise as you will all agree ..theres something that develops inside oneself and so worth the aching muscles.
BTW thanks to all with ongoing helpful hints on this site.

A couple of days camping before my summer holidays wrap up. Quite cool in south west aust for this time of year. The safari tank and steering stabiliser are making life easier. Approaching 80k km now and still loving this bike.

Chuffa....looks georgeous.. Camp anywhere eh wot? Agree steering stabilizer is a winner. Although sometimes I get so wrapped uo forget to change settings...

Little Desert adventure! Haven't ridden the tr much in the last few years due to a few workplace accidents. While recovering from the latest i decided a few days away camping and riding in the Little Desert National Park was just what the doctor ordered. Just needed to wait until I had enough strength in my hand to operate the clutch.

IMG_20190927_130228143.jpg The going was tough in the sand and the k60s were struggling with traction but once up and moving it would float across the sand quite well.

The front tyre being only a 19in and fairly wide seemed to pick up the ruts that ran across the one you would be in and would shoot you in different directions. Pretty scary at 60km/h but only posed a problem in the toughest deepest sections that had had 4wds chop up.

Picking up the bike up after months of inactivity and barely managing to do a pushup was a killer and several of these made sure I slept well that night.
Still loving this bike after so many years, yeah it would be nice to have something a bit lighter, more off road worthy but it wouldn't be half as practical. Hopefully get out here again when I'm feeling stronger... and have better tyres... and maybe finally get that lowering link.
