    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I think he did it because he wanted the Filter to be as high as possible, because of water. Otherwise the frame is directly behind the carb/efi, there is not much space.

Yes exactly - a pod filter onto the TB will work if it is a SM road bike but one of my concerns was that the air box was vulnerable to water ingress, especially if you improved the breathing. The 630 was improved a bit in this regard but as Etze says I wanted it high and tucked away. Also wanted a good off road filter and I can use a pre-filter 'sock' on the UNI.
 
That location also keeps the incoming air cooler probably. And that long tract length is probably a good thing on a big single that doesn't like to rev out much anyway. How's the performance?

Performance is great and the tube volume and pod air filter area is close enough to that of original air box.

I will be parting ways with my two 2008 610's later this year - 2018 is going to be a new direction. Still plenty of time for some last rides!

Hi Big Dom, I had a question.... why didn't you bolt the uni filter to the intake directly? I mean why did you have to use all that tubing?

I recently bought a 4" uni pod for my 610. I am wondering what kind of filter to add to the breather hose, since I will be getting rid of the airbox completely. The tiny K&Ns that people use usually are not available in India. So I might fabricate something on my own...

I wanted to get it up high and out the way for water crossings and to lessen direct dust collection. The battery compartment under the seat was ideal. I have since also fitted a little splash plate just below the side of the battery box to also deflect water. Also the flex tube is approximately the same volume as the OEM airbox and seems to work well (many manufacturers tune this volume in an airbox and was not sure with husky) - likewise the UNI foam filter filters at least the same or more area as the OEM. All waorking great after many 100's of km/miles.
