• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So how's this thing going? Did we ever get 25 people who would like a flannel print jersey? I know I would, but I'm probably the only one who needs a size small.

If they are typical mens sizes I'll need small, too.

I would be up for the race jersy.
Maybe I could sell some guns and tools to try and keep up around here.

I don't believe this...

I'm 40 y/o but I feel like I'm 16 y/o and at the mall being embarrassed by my parents....

You guys aren't really serious about plaid flannel, are you?

I was going to cowboy up and suggest wool instead of flannel for that real retro feel, but I'll settle for the nylon print. :D

Just a quick update:

The first experiment is not good enough, the pattern is too busy and so i am taking a longer term approach. I will work on it until it looks super cool. Will keep ya all informedl.

I haven't noticed any of your posts for quite some time now and feared you were buried under a massive pile of flannel somewhere in Indonesia. Thanks for the update, I'm sure you'll create something awesome.

Flannel, like everything in life, is incredibly complicated.

I bought, and rode with, and washed and dried, a red/white/black flannel. Just to test it, i decided to have a head on collision with a BMW 1150gs last weekend. The BMW was totalled, the 610 was bent, but the flannel did well!

Problem 1)
Its to big, didnt shrink like i thought. Flannnel shirts are cut big!
Problem 2)
The black checks are now faded to dark blue.
Problem 3)
The red/white areas are now slightly pink. Maybe that works for some, but im not a fan of pink checks at this point in my life.
Probelm 4)
Buttons are a problem. I think metal snaps, a la the western cowboys is the way to go. Safer, tears away, easy to take off in emergency.
Problem 5)
I was at a local brew pub and saw this dude with an awesome white/red semi-checkered flannel, and i thought, wow, thats cool. Not as busy as the little red/white/black checks.
Problem 6)
Reading sponsors logos and stuff. Its got to the the right kind of flannel to pull it off. To small a check, and things get too busy. I want a more open check pattern, with mostly white and red, so the logos have room to fit in.

Just this AM i checked out the local flannels at the local 'working dude' clothing store. Some good stuff, but nothing perfect. However i did check out a cool all wool flannel, and that has got me thinking about a winter flannel option.

Flannel drama. Who woulda thought?

Im gonna get there, and its gonna be freakin cool. But its gonna take some time. Like a few months. But i'm on a mission.

So you haven't dinked around with any modern jersey fabrics with a flannel plaid print on them yet?:excuseme::D

Actually that part is the easy part. Ive got the material all picked out, even the cuff type, collar type, etc.

Ive got the PDF's of the sponsors. Ive got the shirt maker all set up.

he is just waiting for me to send him a shirt or PDF with the right pattern/color scheme and I just havent found it yet. I thought i had it, but its turned out to be too busy.

Hell, i was dinking around earlier this morning.

Have you explained this elsewhere? Sounds like something nasty and hopefully ok? . . .

That dude can ride!

Anyway--
Here is what i am thinking for the race jersey.

For the Dual Sport real thing button down flannel i found a nice black/red from Carhartt. Am waiting on a quote for 25 pieces.

I found THE HAT. Super cool black/red baseball style hat. I've got a great idea. 'Finisher pins' of our sponsors for the hat! How retro cool would that be? Big ol' gunsite in white, then red and black hat with 6-7 finsher pins. I'm gonna look into quotes on finisher pins.

Thoughts?

Thanks for asking. It was gnarley. We both flew over the bikes.
His BMW is now totalled. My bike took some hits, but the awesome Uptitpe skid plate saved my motor--the right side pancake cylinder head from the 1150GS hit the skid plate on my right side-on the 610 there is lots of gap there, and it absorbed it big time! The little holes in the metal seemed to have allowed it to wrap around that cylinder, and saved the motor from serious damage.
My asterisk knee braces broke in two spots, but i can still walk. They did there job, big time. I let go right at impact and managed to get my leg up out of the major crush zone just in time, my thigh bent his crash bars on the way up-and that impact got my body spinning head over heals as i flew-i landed some ways away on my head. It was dramatic, but it could have been much much worse.

Wow Mike I don't know what to say other than I really glad you didn't get hurt to bad. You seem almost nonchalant about the whole thing, I know you have taken some nasty spills and collisions before but head on impacts are generally real nerve rattlers.
